Clinton News-Record, 1949-12-15, Page 4PAGE' FOI3R CLINTON' NEWS'.RECORD Let's Chat A Woman's Viewpoint on'This and That By MBA 'WEEKS of heard work by both students and teachers bore fruit at the Collegiate Commencement Thursday and Friday last . .. It was a well rounded program showing many phase's of the cur- ricular and extra -curricular ac- tivities of the school . THE PHYSICAL Culture side of school work was aptly demon- strated by the series of folk dances given by the girls and the pyramids by the boys Both showed excellent training and were pleasant to watch . In the musical numbers, some goad harmonizing was done by a girls' quintette, during which Joyce Andrews received a real ovation for her rendition of "All T Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth" , . WE HAVE heard many com- ments on the fine singing of the School Choir • . The choice of numbers was fitting to the Yule- tide season and included two old English carols A most ef- fective setting added to the mood of the singing . . The darkened stage was lighted from the rear only by drawn curtains, where an old English scene depicted carollers on their rounds . . . THE PROGRAM was completed by an amusing playlet, "A Mad Breakfast" in which Alex Wilson, Joanne Castle and Beverlie Smith had the outstanding parts . Congratulations to teachers and students for an enjoyable even- ing's entertainment , , . WITH THE peek of the fall. clothes buying past' it's interest- ing to survey what has been most popular For with a woman it's one thing to admire a dress in a store or at a fashion show and another to buy it for herself The stand -out, from reports across the country, has been wool jersey , . 'It's been bought by the thousands in smart and youthful looking,;, tailored dresses and in two-piece dresses that may be worn toegther 'or mixed with contrasting colours . .: * * HOLDING their popularity of lest season, the stiffer luxurious fabrics, such as taffeta, brocades and cord, are seen a lot in dinner and short evening dresses The survey shows that ankle length and shorter evening dresses have been chosen more frequently than floor -length gowns . And lastly, in re- gards to hats • Reminiscent of hats worn in the 1920's, .head- hugging hats are the universal favorites this season PRESBYTERIAN GIRLS' CLUB The Girls' Club of Clinton Presbyterian Church held a pot- luck supper in the Sunday School room. After a delicious supper gifts were exchanged and a short business meeting was held. Plans were made for the Sunday School Christmas tree. Officers were appointed for the coming year.
