The United Church Sunday
School held a Civic Holiday cele-
bration on Fred Toll's lawn on
Monday evening. The first part
of the evening's proceedings was
a ball game at the ball park be-
tween Auburn end Blyth, which
resulted in a win for Auburn.
A tug-of-war between Colborne
and West Wpwanosh Townships,
was won by Colborne.

DONALD HARDISTY COLRICK HERNE, for their marriage
which was performed by Rev. E. F. Stanway, on Saturday,
July 9. Formerly Margaret Janette Henry, the bride is the
only daughter 'of Mr. and Mrs. William Henry, Brumfield,
and the groom is the son of Mr. Roy Herne and the late Mrs.
Herne, Sudbury. The young couple will reside in London.

Quartette Sings
On Sunday morning in the
United Church, Brucefiehl; the
Lobb quartette from Linden,
Mich., rendered two beautiful
numbers, 'He Always Is There"
and "Came Spirit Come," which
were greatly appreciated.
Successful Picnic
The Sunday. School picnic was
held at jowett's Grove, Bay-
field; Thursday, July 28. Every-
one had a good time, even if it
did rain at supper time.

Attended Pageant
Two bus loads of people num-
bering 60-30 from St. Boniface
R.C. Church, Zurich, and 30 from
St. Peter's R.C. Church, St. Jos-
eph—attended the 300th anniver-
sary of the shrine of the Canad-
ian 1V1myrs, Fort Ste. Marie, near
Midland. They also attended the
open air pageant. The affair

Happy Workers Meet
The Happy Workers Club held
their July meeting at the home
of Mrs. Noble Holland. The meet-
ing opened by singing "The Old
Rugged Cross," followed by the
Lord's Prayer. The treasurer
and. secretary's report was then
given. The roll call was answer-
ed by 14 members. A letter of
thanks was received from Mrs.
Hugh Ball. The lucky, ticket was
won by Mrs. William Holland.
The next meeting to be held at
the home of Mrs. Raymond Jam-
ieson.
During the afternoon a quilt
was quilted. Later, a dainty
lunch was served by group 3,

Mrs. Newman Garrett, Mrs. Ken

1 Varna, Friday afternoon. Mrs,
Rathwell has been living with her
granddaughter at Windsor for
some time.

Goshen WMS Meets
The July meeting of Goshen
WMS was held on July 28 at
the home of Mrs. Richard Robin-
son with Mrs. Russel Head at
the piano. Mrs. Robinson's group
was in, charge of the program
The theme, "More Missionaries."
The opening hymn 234 was sung.
The president, Mrs. William Hay-,
her, took the chair for the busi-
ness. The minutes were read and
adopted and the roll called. The
secretary -treasurer, Mrs. Erratt
reported $107.34 sent in to date.
The annual event of entertain-
ing the Baby Band was discus-
sed. It 'was moved and seconded
to leave it in charge of the ex-
ecutives to decide ,an the time
and place for the picnic. Rev.
Reba Hero invited the WMS for
the September meeting. Mrs.
Elgin McKinley read the lesson,
part of chapter 25 of St. Mathew,
Miss Hem led in prayer. A duet
was sung by Mrs. Bruce Keyes
and Miss Helen Erratt accomp-
anied by Mrs. Erred -
Mrs. Anson McKinley gave a
reading arid the offering was
received. Mrs. Erratt gave an-
other reading, "Too Late," The
hymn 377, was sung and Mrs.
Robinson pronounced the Bene-
diction. Mrs. Armstrong's group
served lunch.
