cationing with Mrs. Jones' par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Agnew,
at their cottage at Iran Springs,
Lake Huron.
Geoffrey Gordon, Toronto,
spent the holiday weekend as
the guest of Postmaster and Mrs,
G. M. Counter and J. W. Counter.
He served in the Navy with the
last-named.

A quiet but pretty wedding
was solemnized in James St. Unit-
ed Church, Exeter, at 11 am,
Saturday, July 30, when Rev. K
J. Snell united in marriage,
Vivian Elizabeth, only daughter
of Mrs.. Straughan, Auburn, and
the late Charles M. Straughan,
and Ronald' A. Pentlend, North
Bay, son of Mrs. Pentland, To-
ronto, formerly of Dungannon,
end the late A. B. Pentland.
The bride looked charming in
a white tropical gabardine suit
with navy accessories. Her flow-
ers weree a crescent bouquet of
white stephanosis. Mrs. Harry
Arthur, Auburn, was matron of
honor and • chose a grey frock
with navy end white accessories
with crescent bouquet of pink
carnations.
Wilfred Pentland, Dungannon,
brother of the groom, was best
man.
The groom's gift to .the bride
was a Rhinestone necklace and
bracelet; to the matron of honor,
pair crystal vases* to the best
man, leather billfokd.
Following the ceremony, the
young couple left on a wedding
trip to Northern Ontario, and•
Quebec. On their return they
will reside in Norh Bay.
Lucknow, visited one day last
week at the home of their par-
ents, Dr. and Mrs. J. S. Evans.
Mrs. James McDermott, Miss
Annie McDermott and Miss Nat-
alie Breault, Kenogene.,, Qua.,
have returned home after visit-
ing Mrs. McDermott's son-in-law
and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Evans, Jr.
Kenneth H. Damm, Kippen, has
received his Class A certificate
as a licensed mechanic. He has
served a five-year apprentice-
ship with Wells Auto Electric
end Lorne Brown Motors, and is
employed by this firm.

Mrs. C. Farquhar and Mrs. Marg-
aret Johnston were Mr. and Mrs.
Earnest Young, Detroit, Mich.;
Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Dawson, Mar-

after spending the month of July
on a motor trip to the Pacific
Coast, travelling in both Canada
and the United States.

Westminster, B.C., who have
been visiting the former's bro-
ther and sister-in-law, Mr. and
Mrs. J, R. Noble, during the
past .week, and also visiting with
nephews, ere now at the home
of the former's niece, Mrs. Aaron
Fisher,
Mr. and Mrs. Russell E, Holmes
and sons, Gerald and Jack, re-
turned home Friday last from a
month's vacation spent in West-
ern 'Canada. They motored as far
west as Lake Louise, Alta., in
the Canadian . Rockies, and at-
tended the Calgary Stampede,
and report "a wonderful time."

SADDER—JEFFERSON
Tall standards of garden flow-
ers made an attractive setting in
Wesley -Willis United Church, on
Saturday, July 30, at 2.30 p.m.,
for the marriage of Catherine
Howard Jefferson and William
Douglas Sauder. The bride is
the only daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. George H. Jefferson, Clin-
ton, and -the groom is the sae of
Mr. and Mrs. L. Sauder.
Rev, Andrew Lane, Brussels,
former minister of Wesley -Willis
Church officiated. Appropriate
bridal music was played, by Mrs.
Morgan Agnew who alsoaceomp-
anied the soloist, Eerier Jackson,
Toronto, who sang "The, Lord's
Prayer" after the bridal,party
had taken their place's at the
front of the church, and "Until"
during the signing of the register.
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride was lovely in
a gown of White 'embroidered
nylon with bouffant skirt, off -
the shoulder bertha and high
neckline.. Her fingertip veil of
tulle illusion was held in place
with an Alencon lace tiara, She
carried 'a bouquet' of white roses
and stephanotis.
Attending the bride were Miss
Phyllis Herman, Clinton, as maid
of honour, Miss Helen Jefferson,
Owen Sound, cousin of the bride,
and Miss Patricia Sauder, Kit-
chener, sister of the groom, as
bridesmaids, and " little •' Bambi
Orr, daughter' cif Lt. Col, and
Mrs. Robert Orr, Washington,
D.C., and cousin of the bride, as
flower girl. The three senior
attendants wore identical gowns
of frosted organdy with bouffant
skirts in shades of blue, peach
and green respectively. Each
carried a Colonial bouquet. The
flower girl wore a floor -length
gown of yellow frosted organdy
with matching bonnet and car-
ried a basket of yellow and white
daisies.
Donald Simpson was grooms-
man and the ushers were W. A.
Simpson and Donald Linder.
Following the ceremony a re-
ception was held in the Church
Parlour where the bride's mother
received wearing a gown of rose-
wood crepe and lace with white
accessories and a corsage of sweet
peas. She was assisted by the
groom's mother who wore a
gown of blue lace with matching
accessories and a corsage of roses.
For a wedding trip to Halibur-
ton Highlands, staying at the
Edgewater Beach Hotel, the bride
donned a figured blue crepe
with black jacket and accessor-
ies. On their return the couple
will reside in Toronto.
The bride is a graduate of
Alma College, St. Thomas. The
groom is employed in the circula-
tion department of the Maclean -
Hunter Publishing Co., Toronto.

who is in Fergus Hospital, and

ren and ether friends at Elora,
which was his old home, Mr.
Tomkins makes his home with his
daughter, Mrs. T. Leppington.
Mrs. Thomas Leppington and
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Liebold and

spent the holiday 'weekend with
Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Kendall and
Mr. and Mn,sWilliam Hick, De-

sey dress with a corsage of red
and white rose's and also wore a
fingertip veil.
The best man was Douglas
Beverley Hoggarth, brother of the
groom.
The wedding supper was served
at the Bruce Inn Hotel, Kincar-
dine: Later the couple left on a
honeymoon trip to points north,
the bride travelling in a blue
flannel suit with white acces-
sories. On their return they will
reside in Clinton
Prior to her marriage the bride
was felted on several occasions.
Among those • entertaining were
Dr. and Mrs. Howard Fowler at
a dinner; Mrs. Gladys Hoggarth,
mother of the groom, at a little
surprise party; Mrs. Marie Scott,
Misses Thelma Currie and Velma
Hesk, at 'a shower; and a very
delightful trousseau tea was giv-
en at the- home of the bride's
aunt, Mrs.., Roy Mann.

regrets that there was a
slight error when two paragraphs
were jumbled into one. The two
paragraphs should have read:
"Louise Anna was given in
marriage by her uncle, J. H,
Parker. She wore a floor -length•
white gown. The full skirt was
of double net over ,taffeta and
the lace bodice fashioned with a
peplum, sweetheart neckline and
three-quarter length sleeves. She
wore the groom's gift, a strand
of pearls and matching earrings,
and carried a cascade of red
Peerless roses and fern.
"Miss Alice Parker, London,

successful in passing her Grade S
examinations recently held by
the Royal Conservatory of Music,
Toronto, and was able to secure
