Clinton News-Record, 1949-06-23, Page 12PAGE TWELVE COLTS BAT OUT ONE -RUN WIN OVER AIRMEN For four -and -a-half innings of Monday night's Huron -Perth Lea- gue Intermediate baseball match in Community Park, it looked as if Clinton RCAF were going to take the Colts by a margin of 1-0; that is, if the rain had come down at the right time. Instead,• however, despite thunderclaps and "spitting" rain, a full game was completed, end- ing up with Colts ;on the long end of a 6-5 score. The reason was that the Airmen fell apart in the fifth when Colts tallied five counters on two hits and a walk, and five errors, The Airmen -put up a real battle in the seventh, however, pushing across four runs on three hits, a. walk,, and two hit batsmen. Big Don Rbber•tson twirled hitless ball for the RCAF until the fatal fifth, and even at that, allowed the Colt sluggers only four But. eight miscues in the field did not help the Air Force cause very much. , Bob Draper was relieved, in the 01,1N79N NEWS, RFCORP seventh by Gordon Stock, who gave way for pinch -hitter Hugh Hawkins, Bob Craig hurling the last inning. Believe it or not, Doug Bart- liff faced pitcher Robertson five. times, but was credited with no official times at bat. He sacrific- ed the first twice and walked the last three times up. The Colts last night made a "bee' of it and erected a fence inside the race' track. low, watch for the- home . runs!
