WA Host to St. Paul's
Members of St. James, Mid'del-
.ton, WA, were hostesses to St.
' Paul's WA, Clinton, on Thurs-
day afternoon, June 16. Mrs. John
Middleton opened her home for
this special occasion. The spac-
ious ropms were beautifully de-
corated ,with a profusion of tea
roses, peonies' and ferns. There
were 33 ladies attended.

The meeting 'opened with the
WA hymn, followed by an in-
vocation by the president, Mrs;
Stewart Middleton, which was
followed by the Members' Pray-
er in unison, The Scripture les-
son was read by Mrs. Charles
Cooper.
The minutes were read and
adopted and a balance of $31;99
was reported. It was pointed out
that the baling sale was schedul-
ed for Mrs. Edwards' Store, Bay-
field,_ on July 30.
The president welcomed the
guests and introduced the special
speaker, Miss M. A. Stone; Clin-
ton, whose topic was "Simon 'of
the Closed Door." This tale, told
verbatum in Miss Stone's own
inimitable manner transported
her audience to Biblical times.
Mrs, Fred Middleton graciously
moved a vote of thanks to the
speaker, which the ladies heart-
ily endorsed. The president of
St. Paul's WA, Mrs. Fred Hudie,
moved a vote of thanks to the
ladies for their hospitality. The
president closed the meeting with
prayer.
Miss Aphra Steepe, ae former
member or St. James, poured tea
and the hostesses served a bounti-
ful lunch thus concluding a very
happy occasion.

MR. AND MRS. WILLIAM DOUGLAS ARMSTRONG,
whose marriage took place at the parsonage of the Baptist
Church, Goderich, on Monday, June 6, 1949. The bride, form-
erly Anna Maude MacMath, is the youngest daughter of Mrs.
MacMath, Goderich, and the late Mr. Samuel R. MacMath.
Her husband is the younger son of Mr. and Mrs. Archibald
Armstrong, Stanley Township. The couple will reside in Exeter.
Ontario Std WMS Hear
Of 'Missionary Work
The June meeting of the WMS
of Ontario St. United Church was
held in the Church Hall on Tues-
day afternoon, June 14, with 27
present. The president, Mrs. W.
J. Woolfrey, was in the chair.
The Baby Band and Mission Band
numbering eight mothers and 15
children, were guests of the
meeting.
The meeting opened with the
singing of a hymn after which a
poem "We would be building"
was read and prayer offered by
Mrs. Woolfrey. The Devotional
period was taken by Mrs. Mc-
Murray, the theme being "Keep-
ing the Lord's Day.' The hymn
"0 Day of Rest and Gladness"
was sung -after which Miss H.
Courtice lead passages of Scrip-
ture from Geneiss 2: 1-3; Exodus
30: 8-11; Luke 4: 16-21; Luke 24:
1-,7, and Psalm 84 was read re_
sponsively.
Miss E. Wiltse sang "0 Sab-
bath rest by Galilee," after which
Acts 2:1-4 and Acts 12: 1-4 were
reed and the meditation from the
Missionary Monthly June pro-
gramme.
The minutes were read and
adopted and a letter of thanks
read. Community Friendship
Secretary, Mrs. Webster, report-
ed 11 calls and Miss Wiltse re-
ported 12 calls. The expense
committee reported a balance of
$7.30. The president announced
that the July meeting would take
the form of an out -door meeting
at the home of Mrs. Charles
Stewart on the third Tuesday of
July, with the prgoremme in
charge of the executive. The
executive will meet at the par-
sonage on July 2. It was decided
to invite the WA to this meeting.
A letter was read by Miss M.
Wiltse from Miss Sybil Courtice
telling of work done in her dist-
rict of Japan in 1948. A temper-
ance prayer was given by Mrs.
Farnham. Mrs. Woolfrey wel-
comed the visitors and the Mis-
sion Band, under the direction of
their leader, Mrs. Ray Fear, had
charge of the programme, with
their president, Margie 'Ellen
Lawson, in the chair. The pro-
gramme included piano solos by
Jane Batkin 'and Douglas McLean;
readings by Marion Grossman,
Ruth Carter and. Mrs. Fear; vocal
solo, Marlene Jervis; dialogue,
"Help for China" and a chorus
"The Teddy Bears Picnic," the
latter two numbers having the
whole group take part.
The Mizpah Benediction closed
a very pleasant and profitable
meeting after which delicious
refreshments of sandwiches and
cake, chocolate milk for the
children and tea for the mothers
were served and an enjoyable
social hour spent.

Huron Rural Deaneryof the
Church of England in Canada
held its spring session in St.
Paul's Church, Clinton, Monday,
June 13, with about 75 present
from the parishes of Bayfield -
Varna -Middleton, Myth, Clinton,
Exeter, Fordwich, Goderich, Hen -
sail, 'Seaforth, Walton, Wingham,
Gorrie and Brussels. Rural Dean
Rev. B. H. Farr, Goderich, pre-
sided.
Holy Communion was celebrat-
ed at 10 a.m., with Rev. B. H.
Farr, Goderich, celebrant, assist-
ed by Rev. R. M. P. Bullteel.,
Clinton.
Business meetings of the var-
ious departments were held with
splendid reports from all branches.

W -W Girls' Club
Holds Social Evening
The Girls' Club" of Wesley -
Willis United' Church held a very
enjoyable social evening in the
church parlour on Tuesday even-
ing, June 14. , On account of the
severe electrical storm bringing
with it the ,much-needed rain,
coming just at the hour of the
meeting, the attendance was very
small.
The meeting was in charge of
Mrs, J. Innes and Mrs. L. Ball,
with Mrs. Innes in the chair.
Mrs. G. M. Steepe gave a most
interesting paper "The Ten Com-
mandments for every day living."
Delicious refreshments added
greatly to the •enjoyment of the
evening.
Members are asked to keep in
mind the fall bazaar and have
their articles ready.

Tall standards of peonies,,
gladioli, delphinium and candle-
ebra formed a pretty setting at
Ontario Street United Church,
Clinton, Saturday, June 18, when
Rev. W. J. Woolfrey united in
marriage Jean' Ferguson, young-
est daughter of Mrs. Elliott and
the late George H. Elliott, Clime
ton, to George Conway Cooper,
RCAF Station, Clinton, son of
Mrs. Fred Corp and the late
Charles 'Cooper, Toronto.
Miss Coronna Wendorf sang
"Because" before the ceremony
and "Through the Years" during
the signing of the register. Mrs.,
E. Wendorf presided at • the
organ.
Given in marriage by her
elder brother, Edward W. El-
liott, the bride wore a gown of
white slipper satin fashioned on
colonial lines with nylon net
yoke accented with lace and
pearl clips, The full skirt feat-
ured side hoops with a butter-
fly back falling into ,a graceful
train. Her finger-tip embroid-
ered veil fell from a beaded
coronet headdress. She wore a
four -strand necklace of 'pearls and
carried' a cascade bouquet of pink
rapture roses.'Attending the bride
was her cousin, Miss Doreen
Elliott, who chose a gown of
orchid lace and net over taffeta
with a matching veil and beaded
headdress. She carried a cascade
bouquet of yellow "Gloria" roses.
The groomsmen was John
Winter, RCAF, `Clinton, end the
ushers were Dr, G, S, Elliott,'
brother of the bride, and William
Sparks, RCAF, Clinton.
Following the ceremony a re-
ception was held at Hotel Clin-
ton, where the bride's mother
received wearing navy blue
Enceinte crepe with matching
accessories and a corsage of pink
carnations. She was assisted by
the groom's 'mother who chose a
suit a beige gabardine with
brown accessories and a corsage
of yellow "Gloria" roses. For
travelling the bride wore a, skip-
per blue gabardine suit with
matchign accessories, with light
blue shortie topcoat, and a- cor-
sage of white carnations. On
their return they will reside in
Clinton.
