Present Programmes
At County Home
Thursday, June 2, was a gala
day at Huron County -Home when
the WA of James St. United
Church, Exeter, came in the af-
ternoon and presented an excel-
lent programme. In the evening
the WA of Wesley -Willis United
Church were present and they
too presented a programme.
Mrs. Wes Witmer, president,
was chairlady for the afternoon
programme from Exeter. Those
assisting were Mrs. Garnet Frayne
who gave e violin number ac-
companied by Mrs. Crocker; Mrs,
Pooley, a reading; Mrs. Crocker,
a piano solo; quartette, Mrs.
Coates, Mrs. Pooley, Mrs. Lind-
enfield and Mrs, Johns; solo, Mrs.
Hodgert; reading, Miss Olive
Prior, and the last number was' 8
solo, "Little Old Lady," sung by
Mrs. Thomes Coates,
Before departing the Exeter
ladies left treats of candies, fruits
and ice cream.
Mrs. W. A. Oakes was in the
chair for the programme of the
evening. An excellent devotional
period was given with Miss Marg-
aret Davies giving Lesson Thou-
ghts, Mrs. A. T. Cooper offering
Prayer and Mrs. B. B. Pockling-
ton reading the Scripture Lesson.
Mrs. Oakes and Miss Viola Fraser
each sang a solo with Miss Maude
Torrance accompanying each.
In the course of the evening
the WA presented three beautiful
Landscape picture and the Girls'
Club a Madonna picture and a
wicker flower standard which
will be used in the Assembly
room of the Home. Mrs. M. E.
Jacob, matron of the home, re-
plied very fittingly, expressing
sincere pleasure at the gifts and
mentioning that this visit will
long be remembered on account
of the tangible remembrances
which had been donated.

year, 40,000 Canadian war veter-
ans were registered in special
courses and regular classes of
our universities,
Recent Bride Feted
Prior to Marriage
Miss Helen Dixon was hostess
at • e • lovely shower given in hon-
our of Miss Jessie Mee Campbell
on May 25. The bride-to-be was
the recipient of many lovely and
useful gifts. A'dainty lunch was
served by the hostess.
A trousseau tea was given by
Mrs. Alex Inkley at her home,
Queen St., on Tuesday afternoon
and evening, May 31, for her sist-
er, Miss Jessie Mae Campbell, a
bride -elect of June 4.
The house was beautifully de-
corated with spire', snowballs,
tulips and peonies. Mrs. Inkley
and Miss Campbell received • the
guests, Mrs. Iakley wearing black
;crepe and the bride-to-be in blue
'crepe. They were assisted by Mrs.
!George Campbell, Jr., Mrs. Robert
Campbell, Mrs. H. Hertley, Miss
Betty Cooke, Mrs: J, T. Brown,
Miss Helen Dixon, Miss Marion
'Pickett, Mrs. Robert Draper, Mrs.
Alex Haddy, Misses Woodena and
Anne Epps. Mrs. A. E. Fremlin
poured tea in the afternoon and
Mrs. Fred Hanley in the evening.
Friends Fete Bride
Prior to Marriage
The home of Mr. and Mrs.
Norman Carter, Clinton, was the
scene on Tuesday, May 31, of a
trousseau tee in honour of their
daughter, Miss Joyce Carter, a
bride -elect of early June.
About 170 'guests were enter-
tained at tea during the afternoon
and evening and were shown the
lovely trousseau which was dis-
played throughout the house.
Tea was poured by Mrs. H,
Martin, Goderich, and Mrs. M.
Hooper, St. Marys, aunts of the
bride, assisted by friends of the
bride and her family. Red and
yellow tulips and bridal wreath
provided a beautiful setting for
the event.
Previous to her marriage Miss
Joyce Carter was presented with
a gift by the office staff in Lon-
don and entertained at a shower
given by her friends.

merly Elizabeth Leitch and has
spent all her life In Hallett and
Seaforth.

'Several Birthdays
The WA of Ontario St, United
Church met on Tuesday afternoon
Tune 7, with the president, Mrs.
C. Venner, in the chair. The
meeting opened with the singing
of a hymn followed by prayer.
The devotional period was taken
by Mrs. Woolfery. Mrs: Town-
send acted as secretary in the
absence of Mrs. Elliott.
Miss Elva Wiltse favoured the
ladies with a piano solo, Mrs,
Aiken gave a reading and two
short poems were read by Mrs.
C. Stewart, all of which were
much, enjoyed. The meeting clos-
ed with the Mizpah Benediction
and the ladies of St. Andrew's
Ward served a lovely lunch. Mrs.
W. J. Plumsteel and Mrs. M,
Wiltse moved a very heerty vote
of thanks.
Birthday greetings were ex-
tended to Mrs. Sperling, who was
celebrating her birthday that day;
also to Mrs. Pearson and Mrs.
Henry who have birthdays In
June and who have passed the
four -score -and -over mark. These
ladies responded suitably.

Recent Bride !-Honored
At Pleasant Events
Prior to her recent marriage,
Mrs. L. E. Bond, the former Miss
Ruth Potter, was honoured at two
very pleasant events,
Mrs, Fred Hudie entertained
about 20 friends and neighbours
at a miscellaneous shower which
was a great surprise to the bride -
elect. Dainty refreshments clos-
ed a very happy evening.
Mrs, Fred Potter, mother of
the bride-to-be, entertained at a
delightfully arranged trousseau
tea in honour of her daughter.
A profusion of white lilacs and
pink tulips added a touch of
beauty to the rooms of the home,
In the afternoon, Mrs, A. E, Bond,
mother of the govern -elect, and
Miss Mary Leckie, Blyth, poured
tea in the afternoon and Mrs,
W. M. Nediger and Mrs. Reg.

United Church will hold its June
meeting to -night (Thursday, June
9) at eight o'clock, at the home
of Miss Ethel Thompson, Mrs.
N. Tyndall's group will be in
charge.
Mothers' Study Group
Holds Good Meeting
The regular meeting of the
Mothers' Study Group of Wesley-
Willis United Church was held at
the home of Mrs. Gordon Ross
with Mrs, Howard Currie in
charge.
Mrs. Currie opened the, meet-
ing by reading a poem, after
which a hymn was sung and pray-
er offered. Mrs. Trewartha read
several letters of thanks for the
bale which had been sent and for
flowers which had been received
by those who had been ill. Mrs.
Currie read several interesting
articles after which an excellent
discussion on them took place.
It wo's decided to have the
regular June meeting in place of
the picnic as formerly planned.
The' next meeting will be held
;at the home of Mrs. Reg. Shipley
with Mrs. J. Waldron in charge.

Lockhart and Mrs. H. Currie.
The meeting closed with the
singing of a hymn after which
dainty, refershments were served
by the hostess, Mrs. F. Miller
and Mrs, K Fowler.
