Peewees Win and Lase;
iFnal Game Auburn Friday
Clinton Shaws and Wingham
are all -square at one game each
In their WOAA Championship
Peewee baseball series.
After winning the first game
et home Saturday afternoon by
10-6, Dr. J. W. Shaw's youngsters
lost at Wingham last. night 11-7.
The third and deciding game of
the series, according to James
Chowen, Clinton, convener a the
group, will be played on the
diamond at Auburn tomorrow
(Friday) at 6 p.m. sharp.
The Clinton kids secured a
first -inning lead of one run, but
fell flatly by the wayside in the
second, third and fourth frames, I
when the Wingham youngsters
ran up the count to eleven. Er-
cors - in capital letters - spelled I
their downfall. It is possible the
Shaw kids were tryieg just a
little too •hard.
The local . kids learned a few
'valuable lessons in the course of
•the game however, and if they
.win at Auburn tomorrow night-
,as they should -these lessons will
come in mighty handy.

TIED FOR THIRD
WITH LUCAN NINE
Awaiting the result of a re-
played tie game between Cent-
ralia RCAF and St. Marys at the
Stone `Town tonight, Clinton
RCAF and. Lucan Irish Nine are
now tied for third place in the
Huron -Perth Baseball League
standing with' ten wins and ten
losses each, with the 20 -game
schedule completed.
The Airmen went into a tie
In the standing' with Lucan when
they lost to Goderich Fliers here
in a five--nt1ning fixture by 6-3
Tuesday evening. It was a -re_
play of a 8-6 tie game played
en June 21.
Due to a misunderstanding,
nine Fliers and two umpires ar-
rived late and the match did not
start until 7.03 p.m., too late for
anything approaching a full nine
innings to be played. The fifth
inning was completed at 8.16 when
the game was called.
The heat caused the match to
be rather listless and it never
did seem to get going. The Air-
men waited until the fifth to do
anything at all, and then it was
too late.

CLINTON RCAF
EDGES HENSALL
PITCHERS' DUEL
Clinton RCAF Clung desperately
to its, chance for, a ,play -.off
position in the - Huron -Perth
Baseball League' race by edging
the second -place Hensali team 2-1
'in a seven -inning match here
Monday evening. ' The. Airmen
thus went into third place,
Hensall got started to bat in
the eighth and were making
things rather merry for the Air-
men, as three runs had crossed
the pan with only' one out. Um-
pire J. D. Thorndike then called
!the game at exactly 8,11 p,m.,
the score • reverting to the end
of the seventh.
Just for the record, the game
did not start until 6.52 p.m., which
was just about 52 minutest too
late. As the sun was due to set
at 8.10 j.m>, time available for
an alleged nine -inning game was
!only one hour and 18 minutes,
which is not nearly long enough.
The team or player which causes
this tardiness, certainly should be
fined or penalized in some other
way. Old Sol does not wait for
the Huron -Perth League or any-
one connected with it.
In other . words, let's get these
play-off games started not later
than 5.30 p.m., as the sun will
be setting earlier each night. It
is now just a minute or two after
eight. (See Toronto Globe and
Mail, weather detail, Page Two,
each day).
The match itself was a pitch-
ers' battle between Ross Hough-
ton of Hensali and Murphy of
RCAF. Each allowed only four
safe hits, and each was given ex-
cellent support. Hensall faltered
in the second, however, with their
only two errors, and"they spelled
two runs for RCAF and defeat
for Hensall. Each team batted
around exactly three times, in
other words, only 27 batters fac-
ed each pitcher. -
