NOTICE is hereby given that the Municipal Council
of the Township of Stanley proposes that after the 26th
day of August, 1948, being the date of the last publication
of this Notice, to consider the passing of a by-law to close
'the portion, of the original road allowance known as Con-
cession 8, between East part of Lot 13 B.R.N. and West
part of 14 B.R.N., in the Township of Stanley In the County
of Huron, and to sell and convey the soil freehold thereof
unto Mr. John Keyes.
Plans of survey and full description of the lands
affected may be inspected at the office of the undersigned.
The Municipal Council will at its regular meeting,
to be held in Varna on the 6th day of September, 1948,
hear in person or by his or her solicitor or agent, or person

Quilt Raffled
An autographed quilt which
had been on display all afternoon
was auctioned off by Harold Jack-
son. More than 1,000 names were
worked on the quilt and the lad-
ies in charge of it realized more
than $340, John Hanna bought the
quilt for $26 and afterwards gave
it back to the ladies. It was later
sold for $25,
and Marron Taylor visited in
London.

Sympathy Extended
The community was shocked
and saddened to learn of the
sudden passing of Victor Elliott
whose death occurred on Satur-
day at his home. Mr, Elliott will
be much missed in thecommunity
where he was a friend to all. The
sympathy of a wide circle of
friends and neighbours goes out
to Mrs. Elliott in her sad loss.

Blyth Women's Institute, at its
Thursday meeting in Memorial

mittee for the district W. I. picnic
to be held in Goderich, August 18.
A donation of $5. was made to
Blyth Agricultural Society, and it
was decided to sponsor an an-
tique exhibit at the fair on Sept.

Mrs. Arietta Fear was appoint-
ed convener of Agriculture and
Canadian Industries to fill the
vacancy caused by the resignat-
ion of Mrs. F. Oster.
A demonstration and exhibit of
edible animals by Mrs. L. M.
Scrimgeour was interesting. There
was a large collection, consisting
of mice, frogs, a horse, a pig,
snake, mud turtle and others for-
med from Scrimgeour was assist-
ed in the manufacture of this ex-
hibit by Mrs. K. G. Jackson and.
Mrs. A. Taylor. Miss Alice Roger-
son sang, accompanied by Mrs.
R. D. Philp.
Miss Melda McElroy, instruct-
ress in health and physical educ-
ation in Guelph Collegiate, was
guest speaker. Her address was
on "The Effect of 'Gymnastics, on
Health." and was informative and
educational. 1Vliss. McElroy stated
that gymnastics are necessary for
good posture, and posture ex-
presses mental as well as physical.

FARM LAD INJURED
STAFFA — Beverley Taylor,
seven, son of Mr. and Mrs Gar-
net Taylor, near here, suffered a
broken jaw, lost four teeth and
received chin injuries requiring
six stitches when he fell down a
hay chute while helping his fa-
ther in the hay mow.
Ladies' Guild Meets
St. Mark's Ladies' Guild met at
the home of Mrs• Andrew Kirk-
connell, who presided. Prayers
were offered by Mrs. Thomas
Haegittl scripture was read by
Mrs. Thomas S. Johnston; the
topic was taken by Mrs. Glen
Raithby; Misses Evelyn Raithby
and Margaret Jackson played a
piano duet; a reading was given
by Mrs. John Daer; and Mrs.
