COLTS DEFEAT
RCAF BEFORE
RECORD CROWD
Playing before the largest
crowd in many years, with thous-
ands of out -o -town visitors on
hand, Clinton Colts and Clinton
RCAF staged a scheduled Huron -
Perth Baseball League match in
Community Park as the. major
sports event of the Orange Cele-
bration here Monday afternoon.
It was the first meeting of the
two local teams this • season, the
Colts winning 11-6, The Airmen,
however, Were short severalof
their best players, including their
ace hurler, "Murph" Murphy, the
Halifax junior, who was on leave.
' The Auburn battery performed
well for the Colts. Bob Craig
Pitched for seven frames and
Norm Wilson for three innings.
Laurie Colquhoun went in be-
hind the bat in the fourth.• Li
the eighth, a new battery, Stock
and Cook, took over. Big "Rob-
bie" Robertson did the entire
stretch for theAirmen, and if he
had been given half -decent sup-
port in the field, would have come
closer to winningthe genie than
he . did. Some of the erorrs be-
hind him were palpable, includ-
ing dropped flies in the outfield
and the simplest tries. The Air
Force boys were definitely "off-
-at least until the seventh when
they shoved across a trio of
counters. Pitcher 'Robertson's
homer in the ninth featured, but
there was no one aboard.

WHIP WINGHAM;
LEAD LEAGUE
Clinton Lions are sitting on top
of the WOAA Midget group stand
ing with seven victories and no
defeats—although they still have
to hook up with Goderich Lions
in a league game. That will be
within a'few days; we shall know
the story then.
After two previous tries—the
first game was not completed and
`the second was a tie •— "Red"
Garon's lads came through with
a decisive 14-4 victory over the
highly -rated Wingham youngst-
ers at Wingham last evening. The
Wingham pitcher was wild and
hit several Clinton batters. He
took an awful lambasting in the
fifth when Clinton banged in
seven runs.

BOWLING BITS
By MWS •
Two jitneys have been held in
the past week on Thursday and
Tuesday evenings. The prizes
were presented to Mrs. J. M. El-
liott, Mrs. W. S. R. Holmes, W.
S. R. Holmes and G. Gilchrist in
the first tournament and to Mrs.
H. Faikservice, Elmer Murray,
Caryl Draper and G. Gilchrist in
the second evening's play.
Several men's rinks have at-
tended outside tournaments at
Mitchell and Exeter but none
were fortunate in getting in the
prize-winning ranks.

Congratulatoins are in order
for one of our Clinton boys, Ger-
ald Elliott, who in Chesley on
July 1, won out in first place
over an entry of 30 rinks. Al-
though flying under Southampton
colours, with R. LeLong as lead,
Gerry skipped his way to the
finish with four wins plus 29.
4, • ,
Several rinks from here enter-
ed the Purity Flour Tournament
at Goderich on Dominion Day but
no one was successful in winning
prizes, although some were close.
We have found . in this game
that an inch is as good' as a mile.
