Dr. and Mrs. R. Hunter and two daughters, Toronto, visited Mrs. Hunter's parents, Mr. and Mrs, Charles F. Rogers, "Char - Min" cottage over the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Cameron and children, Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Marr, Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich. visited Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Mack, on Sunday. Mrs. Clayton. Guest who has been visiting her sister, Mrs. Malcolm Toms, left last week to spend a few days in Toronto be- fore returning to her home at Terrace Bay. Recuperating Goerge •Heard and • R. Larson were sufficiently reocvered from injuries received while on con- struction work in Meaford that they were able to leave Owen Sound Hospital last week and re- turned to their respective homes here on Thursday evening, to re- cuperate. New Hotel Opens The new Ritz Hotel which was completed recently opened for business on Saturday. Guests in- cluded Mr, and Mrs. Cameron, son and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Mair, Mr. and Mrs. Cox and son, Roger, Detroit. Mr. and Mrs. H. Edwards Jr., London. The enterprising proprietors, Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Bailey have been showing many interested people through the ,premises. The new building which adds greatly to the business section of the vill- age was built by F, C. Kalbfleisch and Son. Work commenced on December 17, 1947. It is simple in design, a two story frame building 70' X 30', covered with white Johns -Manville shingle siding and a red asbestos shingle roof. While there were thirteen bed- rooms in the former building which was burned Angust 30, 1947 the new structure contains only eleven, On the first floor are a lounge, bar, dining -room and spacious kitchen. The rooms are all decorated in pastel tints. The attractive dining -room which is thirty feet square has large win- dows in either side and is tinted in green with a rose ceiling. Was 'Highly Respected The following excerpt is from a Brantford ppaer: "Charles C. Roth, one of Bantford's best known and highly respected business men and layman of the United Church, died in Brantford General Hospital on Saturday, April 17, in his 75th year. Born at Bayfield Mr. Roth came to Brantford as a young man and with the ex- ception of a short period in Van- couver lived here since. He enter- ed the mercantile cloth business and was for many years associat- ed with A'ndrew McFarland, From 1932 on he has been a partner with D. Harold Kitchen, in the Kitchen -Roth White Star Store on Dalhousie St. Mr. Roth was one of the most esteemed members of Zion Church He was an usher for 40 years an elder for nine, and for 17 years had served on the Board of Man- agement. Mr: and Mrs. John Fingiand have returned after spending eight months with their daughter, Mrs. (Dr.) Grierson, Sunderland. Mr. Willis Mountain returned to his home on Monday after hav- ing been in Clinton. Public Hos- pital for the past ten weeks. His many friends wish him continued recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Wallace and family, Goderich, and Mr. and Mrs. Dave Bean and family of Carlow, visited with Mr. and Mrs, William Addison on Sunday. Storm Does Damage Last week's wind and hail storm did considerable damage at the farm of Thomas Roberton on the 13th of Hullett. The roof was taken off the west side of his barn and part of his house; and several windows were broken in the house. W.A. Meets The W.A. held their meeting in the basement of the church 1 on Thursday afternoon with a ; good attendance. The meeting opened with hymn 445 followed by Lord's Prayer in unison. Mrs.. L. Pipe read the minutes of the Roth resided at the Y.M.C.A, and during that time was active in Dormintory Colts and in Bowling.
