Officers, for the next, conference
year were elected at the meeting
of Huron Presbytery of the Unit-
ed 'Church of Canada held in Sea -
•forth Presbyterian Church Tues-
\ day. Rev. William Mair, Thames
Road Church, presided.
Officers elected for the period
July 1, 1948, to June 30, 1949, were
Rev. W. A. Beecroft, Wingham,
chairman; Rev. A. W. Gardiner,
Egmbndville, secretary; J. A.
Snider, Goderich, treasurer.
Rev. Mr, Mair and Rev. H. J.
Wilson, Brussels, were nominated
for the settlement committee.
Frank Howson, Wingham, and
Rev, R, G, Hazlewood, Walton,
were nominated as commissioners
to the general council, meeting
in Vancouver in September. 'Rev.
C. W. Cope, Goderich, and Rev.
W. J. Moores„ Belllrave, were
named as the induction conamit-
tee, and the Layman's Association
elected Nelson W. Trewartha,
Clinton, as chairman, and Robert
Watson, Brucefield, as secretary.

83 with aro, William' Mutch, Sr ,
as Noble Grand, in a very credit-
able manner confeiyed the third
degree on five Clinton candidates
Tuesday evening. Following the
degree the five brothers spoke
briefly.
Plans were made at the same
meeting to attend Divine Worship
in Clinton Baptist Church on
Sunday, May 16, at the morning
service.

The WA. of Wesley -Willis Unit-
ed Church will hold its regular
meeting in the Church Parlour on
Thursday, May 6, at 3 p.m, Group
One will be hostesses,
It was decided that James Alex-
ander Filshie, B.A., who has com-
pleted his third year in theology
at Emmanuel College, Toronto
should be sent to the conferonca
for ordination,
The regular June meeting will
be held in the Wroxeter United
Church, and the September meet-
ing in Victoria Street United
Church, Goderich.

Mrs. E. C, Nickle has returned
to her home after spending last
week in Toronto.
Mrs. L. Dippbll, Bowmanville,
spent the weekend with her par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. O. W. Potter,
Mrs. Irene Henri and daughter,
Miss Shirley, are spending a few
days this week with relatives in
Windsor,.
Mr. and Mrs. A. D. McCartney
spent last week in Owen Sound
visiting the latter's brother and
sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Albert
Livermore,
Gordon Grigg, son of Mr, and
IVIrs. A. G. Grigg, Clinton, com-
menced his duties today as junior
clerk with Clinton Brunch of the
Royal Bank of Canada.
Mr, and Mrs, Percy Wheatley,
Toronto, were renewing acquaint-
ances in town over the weekend
coming up to attend the funeral
of the late H. A. Steven.
W. F. Cantelon, Toronto, for-
merly of Clinton, returned home
to -day after spending a week with
his sister, Mrs, J. E. Brooks, and
his niece, Mrs A, Gardiner.
Dr. & Mrs. M. Graham
Fittingly Recognized
In fitting recognition of 35
years service in the community,
the people of Ponoka, Alberta, re-
cently honoured Dr. and Mrs, M.
Graham at a public reception in
Elks Hall. Dr. Graham is a broth-
er of Goldie Graham, Bfucefield,
and Mrs. James Broadfoot, Sea -
forth, and is one of Stanley Town-
ship's native sons who has made
good in his ohosen profession and
of whom the Township is justly
proud.
r" During the course of the social
evening the part that Dr. Grahain
had played in the community was
fittingly mentioned by several
speakers, stressing his many acts
of benevolence and charity, and
the service he had rendered on
the School Board, the Board of
Health and as the Medical Health
Officer. Musical numbers inter-
spersed the speeches. '
At the close of the programme
Mrs. Graham was presented with
35 roses in honour of her hus-
band's 35 years of service ' and
also a bouquet of 'mums while
the Doctor received an Odd Fel-
lows ring and an album of sig-
natures in which was enclosed a
token of friendship and apprecia-
tion.
