CLINTON KIDS
OUST LUCKNOW
TO ENTER FINAL
Although it is April and the
.hockey season was over long in
most communities, Clinton Lions
Bantams are still battling for the
WOAA Bantam hockey title.
The Clinton youngsters ousted
Lucknow 5-2 in the fourth game
of the semi-final series in Classic
City Arena, Stratford, Feiday
mornnig last. Each team previous-
ly had won one match and tied
one.
Clinton was scheduled to meet
the winner of the Walkerton -
Southampton series for the
championship, with the first game
in Owen Sound Wednesday even-
ing and the second in Stratford
Friday.
Clinton 5—Lucknow 2
The Good Friday morning
match in Stratford was hard-
fought throughout, but Clinton
always had the edge, leading 3-1
at the end of the first and 3-2 at
the end of the second. The locals
clinched the decision with two
counters without reply in the third
stanza.
Only two penalties were hand-
ed out—both going to Clinton.
About 30 fans accompanied the
kids to Stratford.

Goderich Fliers Out
In Semi -Final Rouns!
With goalie Bob Miller and
forward Bill Hanly, two Clinton
boys, in their line-up, Goderich
Louzon Fliers, OHA Junior "C"
Champions in 41946-47, have com-
pleted a very successful 1947-48
season.
The team was eliminated in the
semi-finals in two straight games
last week by Thorold Legion
Mounts, the score being 8,-5 in
each match—at Waterloo Tuesday
and at Port Colborne Thursday.
A special train accompanied Fliers
to Waterloo.
In the other bracket of the
semi-finals, Gananoque defeated
Aurora in two straight games,
thus placing Gananoque and Thor-
old in the finals.

,fairly evenly divided. Then things
j hsppened as Milverton hicked the
first goal of the game and before
. the final whistle sounded they
added three more, to register a
4-0 shutout and qualify for the
next round. Milverton won the
first game last week 2-1.
Witnessed by the second larg-
est crowd' of the current season
in Stratford, over 2,800 fans at-
tending, the game may not have
produced the very best brand of
hockey but one thing to the credit
of both teams theyplayed it clean
and hard. Only six minor pen-
alties were imposed. Every
player stuck to hockey and the
opposing teams, although intensely
loyal to their favorites, showed
their appreciation of the manner
in which the players stuck to
hockey.
There was no doubt who were
the outstanding stars of the game,
because it was the netminding of
George Schmidt of Milverton and
Earl McNabb of Seaforth which
brought the most applause. For
Bosharts, after Goalie McNabb,
the honors should go to George
Shaw, Bill O'Shea, Frank Ellwood
and Jack Roberts.
Goderich Drops First
Of Juvenile Finals
Icing a team that would go a
long way in OMHA Juvenile
company, Durham' handed God-
erich Lions a 11-6 reverse in the
first ganie of the WOAA. juvenile
finals in Stratford Arena last
week.
Durham produced a bigger,
faster and better polished team,
although they did not have a thing
on Goderich in battling qualities,
and at the end of the second, per-
iod, with Goderich leading 6-5,
after trailing 4-2 at the first rest
period, it looked Ike either team's
game.
Apparently Goderich shot their
bolt in the second canto, when
they turned in their hest perfor-
mance, to outscore Durham 4-1,
because they faded badly in the
last frame, when Durham carried
the play to them and definitely
enjoyed a wide edge by outscoring
them 6-0.
The teams met again. in Owen
Sound Arena Wednesday evening
last when Durham won the game
and the title.
