Wood's, Detroit, were guests at the .A1 - bion Hotel over the weekend. Dr. and Mrs. Chapman return- ed to Detroit Monday, after clos- ing their cottage for the season. Miss Anne Drouin and Mrs. T. B. Mullen, Detroit, were et the former's cottage over the week- end. Mr. and Mrs. A. Hayman, Lon- don, were at their cottage over the weekend to close it for the season. Mr. and Mrs. James p. Ferg- uson, London, visited the form- er's mother, Mrs. James Ferguson, on Sunday. Dr. and Mrs. Wesley Heard, Pasadena, California, visited the former's, sister, Mrs. G. M. Gal- braith, recently. Misses Jessie Metcalf and Agnes Savage, Detroit, were at . their respective homes in the village over the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. George Hopson are enjoying a television set which they had installed recently at their home on Main Street., Mr. and Mrs. James Sturgeon, Galt, visited the former's mother and sister, Mrs. William and Miss Berthena Sturgeon, over t h e weekend. F/S Donald and Mrs. Stirling and daughter Beverley, Rock- cPiffe, spent the weekend with the former's aunts, Misses M. and J. Stirling. Mr. and Mrs. George Little were in Goderich Saturday, where they attended the marriage of the latter's nephew, William Hugh Johnston to Miss June McCabe, which took place in North St. United Church Saturday after- noon. The many friends of Mrs. R. W: Bristol, who was: hit by an automobile after stepping off a bus in Washington, D.C., several weeks ago, will be glad to know that she has recovered sufficient- ly to leave hospital and return to All States Hotel. Suppnick, Miss Holley Louise Suppnick, Detroit, and Mrs. Dick Stevenson and three children, Linda, Arthur and Carl, formerly•of New Jersey, who ere visiting her mother en route to make their home in California, spent the weekend at their cot- tage "Holley Lodge." When she was seated Miss Ethel Blair read an address and Mrs. John Lindsay took the gifts out of a basket behind the chair. Phyllis was asked to guess the contents of each parcel and where it should be placed in the room before opening it, which caused great merriment. The ribbons off the gifts were tied together and passed amongst those present. The end one was held by Mrs. Ro- bert Turner. After acknowledg- ing the many beautiful gifts, the bride-to-be graciously extended an invitation to all to visit her in her future home. The re- mainder of the evening was spent in playing progressive euchre. The prize for high score went to Mrs. Merton Merner and low score to. Mrs. Bob Irwin. The hostess served refreshments at the close of a happy evening. An Interesting Vititor Miss Bertha Tanner was the guest of Rev. and Mrs. H. J. E. Webb from Wednesday until Sun- day en route to Ottawa. She sailed from Montreal aboard the ""`Scythia" on October 31 for her home near Lewis, Sussex, Eng. WMS Thankoffering The annual autumn Thankof- fering service of the WMS will be held Sunday evening, Nov. 4, when. Mrs. Grierson of Lon- desboro will be guest speaker. She will speak on Korea. Couple Feted Friends and neighbors of Allan Hill and his bride, Brucefield, feted them at Verne Hall. Leon- ing person, is a trained Sunday School worker of the Church of England who has completed 18 months' service in Canada and will resume her duties in Eng- land upon her arrival. For two summers she did Sunday School van work with Miss Eva Hasell in the Diocese of Athabaska which was under the direction of the Rev. H. J. E. Webb, Fair- view, Alta., before he came to Bayfield. Last winter she was sent to Atlin in the Diocese of Caledonia to take charge of an Anglican Church where there had been no clergyman for eight years. She also did parocheal visiting at nearby Spruce Mines. A student took over the work when she left Atlin to return to the Sunday School van, Miss Tanner enjoyed the_ Peace River country end her stay at Atlin very much and though her work calls her home, she hopes to return to Canada at some future date. i+tHyy I4.-64-•-•-•-•-•-•-•-.0-0-4-.1.-•-•-•-•-•-• LONDESBORO Mr. and Mrs. C. First Farm Forum The first farm forum meeting of the season was held at Bert and O'Rourke read an address and Lorne Thompson presented them with a purse of money. Murdock's orchestra provided music for the dancing. Mrs. Hill is the former Marion Paterson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Paterson, Brucefield. a Hunk'ing's on Monday night with. 50 present. A pleasant and prof- itable, time was spent together.. The next meeting will be held at. Stewart Ament's, Orange Fowl Supper Members of Londesboro LOL. Londesboro WA Meets The regular meeting of Long- desboro WA was held in the Sunday School roam of the church on Thursday, October 25,. with the president, Mrs. B. Shob brook, in charge. After the call to worship a hymn was sung and was followed by Scripture read- ing and prayer. Another hymn,. was sung and the minutes of last meeting were read and adopted. The treasurer's report was given and a card was read from George Cowan. Plans were made to cater to a banquet for the Masonic Order' on October 30. Programme committee for No- vember: Mrs. T. Fairservice and Mrs. W..Manning. Readings were ;given by Mrs. L. Hunking and Mrs. N. Watson. The meeting closed with a hymn,. and benediction. Lunch was. served by hostesses. There were 18 present.
