Ferg- uson, London, visited the' form- er's mother, Mrs. James Ferguson, on Saturday. R. W. Lundholm, Brainerd, Minn., is visiting his mother and sister, Mrs. E. Lundholm and Mrs, J. W. Jowett. Mrs. Charles Toms returned home on Thursday last after h.av- ing spent tendays with relatives in St. Thomas, Mr. and Mrs. R. W, Stephens and Don, London, spent the week- end at "Shangri-La", their home in the village. LAC and Mrs• R. Stanley who have been staying_ with Mrs. R. H. F. Gairdner, moved to Gode- rich on Saturday. Dr. and Mrs. A. Chapman re- turned to Detroit. on Tuesday af- ter having been at -their cottage over the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Sturgeon, Preston, were with the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs Ed Sturgeon, over the weekend. Mr. and Mrs: Robert McEwen, Byron, were in the village Sun- day, closing their cottage "The Cedars" for the season. Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Bauer have closed their cottage for the sea- son this week and returned to their home in Waterloo. Orr and son John, Stratford, were at the fam- ily cottage over the weekend. R. Thomas Ori', ,Misses Peg Orr and Mary Ellen Burt and Senorita Nair Limo, spent Saturday with them. Roy Mcclinchey, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Dunn and Kerry, Stock- bridge; Mich., Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Holm, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Jeffer- son and Linda, Preston, spent the weekend with Mrs. Henry Mc- Clinchey. Sgt. H. Thompson, Mrs. Thomp- son ,and three children, Barbara, Linda and Susan, who have been occupying one of the Jewett cot- tages, while the former was sta- tioned at RCAF Station, Clinton, left for Trenton on Monday. Miss Catherine P. Rankin dos- ed her cottage, "Glenboig," on Monday and left for Wyoming, Ont., en route to spend a few days in Mount Pleasant, Mich., before leaving to reside at Penny Farina, Florida, for the winter. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Fraser have sold the Log Cabin, which they purchased from the Supertest Oil Company to Dr. E. A. McMaster, who will have it moved to his lakeshore property from Main St., in the near future. Mr. and Mrs. J. Fraser left on Wednes- day on a motor trip down East. They will spend several days in Montreal and Chatham, N. B. Jackie and Mildred are staying with relatives in Clinton during their parents' absence. Critically Ill Friends here learned with re- gret that Miss Marion Fairbairn was taken •suddenly ill at the Women's City Club, Detroit, on Friday and is in hospital in crit- ioml condition. We wish her a speedy recovery. (Intended for last week) Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Johnston, Paris, were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Weston over the Thanksgiving weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Johnson who originally came from Blake, visited Mr. and Mrs. William Dowson on Tuesday. They are missionaries in Bolivia who have beenhome on furlough since July and expect to return shortly to take charge of their work again by Christmas. Helen` and Jack Fraser have sold their lunch counter and business, the Cities Service Sta- tion, which they have operated for five years to Cliff and Eva Utter, who took possession Fri- day, October 5. Mr. and Mrs. Utter came here from Camlachie, where they formerly conducted a tourist home. Utilities Com- mission: Emerson Shore, Wing- ham, was selected as superin- tendent of the PUC. Chosen from a list of eight applicants, Mn Shore succeeds Donald Jeffs, who recently resigned. Mr. Shore, an. employee of the PUC here since 1936, will take over Nov. 1. The present superintendent, Mr. Jeffs, had resigned after seven yeas's service to take a position with the Canadian Line and Cable Ac- cessories Ltd, Toronto. Mrs. William Lyon is spending this week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Stewart, Clin- ton. Mr. and Mrs. William Wells and Douglas, Clinton, visited with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Young- blutt. Mr. and Mrs. Douglas McDoug- all and children, Porter's Hill, called last week on Mr, and Mrs. David Ewan. The WA meeting has been post- poned a week and will be held on Thursday, Oct. 25, in the school room of the church. Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Dixon and. Paul, Clinton, Mrs. Gordon Kerr, Vancouver, and Howard Brunsdon visited with Mrs. W. T. Brunsdon on Sunday afternoon. Mrs. J. H. Shobbrook had as her guests on Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Eddy Webb, Toronto; Miss Mabel Shobbrook, Varna; Mr. and Mrs. Percy Gibbings and family, Clinton, and Mr. and Mrs. Bert Shobbrook and daughters. The Rally Day service of the Sunday School and the church services will be combined next Sunday, Oct. 21. The Sunday School will occupy the front seats of the church. Services at the usual hour, ten o'clock (EST). Orangemen Meet At the annual meeting of Lon- desboro's LOL No. 863, officers were elected for the coming year: WM, J. Webster; DM, S. Ament; secretary, C. Bromley; treasurer, J. Nott; chaplain, E. Hesk; first lecturer, A, 'Weymouth; second leoturer, T. Adams; committee- man, R. Townsend. A beautiful Autumn day was ideal for the United Church an- niversary which was held last Sunday, Oct. 14, long before the hour of service people were seen wending their way to the church which was well filled. Rev. W. Proctor, Teeswater, was the guest minister, a very able speaker. His remarks were based on the "Lord's Prayer.' His text at the morning service being a portion of the Lord's Prayer, "Hallowed Be Thy Name"; in the evening the text was "Thy Kingdom Come". A well filled choir sang an anthem both morning and even- ing, and Mr. Charles Malcom, Munro, favored with a pleasing solo in the morning and evening. A trio: Mrs. Allan Shaddick, Miss Gail Manning end Mrs. Clare Vincent, also rendered two fine selections, with Mrs. Brenton at the organ. All of which added greatly to the services. The church was nicely decor- ated with autumn flowers, The services throughout were quite inspiring and uplifting.
