in Haileybury hospital recovering
from injuries received in a re-
cent motor accident, Both are
reported tee -be progressing satis-
fectorily though they will have
to remain in hospital a while
longer.
Mrs. D. J. Lane was special
speaker at the Thankofferin.g
meeting of the Arthur Circle of
Knox Church, Goderich, on Mon-
day, Oct. 15, She is also the
speaker at Blyth thankoffering
meeting on Wednesday of this
week and attends the Synodical
meetings at London on Thursday
and Friday, Oct. 18 end 19.

Ontario St: Girls'
Club Hears of Tour
The. October meeting of the
Girls' Club of Ontario St. Church
was held Thursday evening, Oat.
11, et the home of Mrs. Harold
Crittenden. Miss Couches pre-
sided and the theme of the meet-
ing was Thanksgiving. Mrs. Eagle
took charge of the devotional
period and presented some tho-
ughts for Thanksgiving.
A speci,-alfeature was the
solos given by Mrs. Bruce Cann,
both in her native Dutch lang-
uage and in English. Miss Emma
Plumsteel had charge of the .pro-
gram and read two poems suit-
able to the season. Marlene
Jervis played very capably two
piano solos.
The guest speaker was Miss
Helen Hindley, who gave a most
interesting account of her sum-
mer tour which took in a good
deal of Western United States
and Canada.
The social hour was in charge
of the hostess, assisted by Mrs.
Freeman, Mrs. Stanley, Mrs.
Pickett, Miss Grant and Miss
Lavis.
Ontario 'St.� WMS Has
Excellent Meeting
The October meeting of the
WMS of Ontario St. United
Church was held at the home of
Miss SI. Wiltse on Thursday last.
The president, Mrs. McMurray,
presided.
Meeting opened with the sing-
ing of a hymn end the prayer of
general Thanksgiving was re-
peated in unison. The devotional
period was in charge of Mrs. N.
Carter, the lesson being read by
Mrs. J. Johnston.
Business period followed. The
autumn. Thankoffering meeting
will be held Tuesday evening,
October 23 with Mrs. Eagle as
guest speaker. The need for help
for overseas was emphasized.
The second chapter of the
study book "From Lakes to
Northern Light", was ably taken
by Mrs. W. S. R. Holmes in the
absence of Mrs. H. C. Lawson,
Interesting reports of the sec-
tional convention held et Goshen
Church were given by Mrs. U.
Carter and Mrs. R. Fear.
The meeting closed with the
Mizpah benediction,

The WMS , of Wesley -Willis
Church held its Autumn Thank -
offering meeting in the Lecture
Room of the church, which was
gay with autumn flowers for the
occasion, wth Mrs. F. B, Penne-
baker at the piano, Mrs. M. Ad-
dison opened the meeting with
a short prayer and a hymn.
Mrs. James MoLaren read thei
Scripture lesson and Miss Marg-
aret Davies led in a prayer of
Thanksgiving.
A duett by Mrs. Mary Sutter
and Miss Audrey Jervis was
greatly appreciated, Mrs, M. R.
Rennie was their accompanist.'
The offering was received and
Mrs. A. T. Cooper offered, a ded-
icatory prayer. Mrs, Ray Vin-
cent entertained the meeting with
a beautifully -rendered piano solo.
The guest speaker, Rev, (Miss)
A. M. Dougherty, Underwood,
was introduced by ' Mrs. J. A.
McGill and gave a most inter-
esting talk, telling of her many
experiences in China and later
in India, prior to her evecuation
frpm those lands owing to war
conditions. She stated that all.
missionaries are now out of
China, except a very few who
are being held in prison.
The speaker displayed many
beautiful articles of needlework,
brass, china, and jewelliy which
she had brought home.
' At the close of her talk, Mrs.
George Beattie moved a hearty
vote of thanks which was sec-
onded by Mrs, C. Nelson, and
Mrs. H. C. Wilson closed meeting
with prayer.
A p eesant hall hour was spent
over refreshments served by the
social committee.

CLINTON COUPLE
CELEBRATE 47th
ANNIVERSARY
Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Cooper
quietly celebrated their 47th wed-
ding anniversary at their home
here on Wednesday last, Octob-
er 10. Both ere quite active and
enjoying good, health. They have
resided in this district all their
lives.
The couple were married on
Oot. 10, 1904, at the Methodist
Church manse, Brucefield. They
made their home with the groom's
parents, and still reside in the
same house.
Mr. Cooper, who is a son of
the late Mr, and Mrs. Joe Coop-
er comes from a family of four,
of whom n
one brother ,
and sister
ere still. living. Mrs. Cooper; who
was the former Jessie Ellison, is
the oldest daughter of the late
Mr. and Mrs, John Ellison, Clin-
ton. Of a :family of six, she has
three brothers and one sister still
living. ,e-
Mr. Cooper has been employ-
ed with the local organ and pain
factory -now Sherlock Manning
Pianos Limited -for more than
50 years, since he was 13 years
old, and has missed only two
days' work..
His wife recalls a happy but
busy life, and has devoted most
of her married life in creating
a happy home atmosphere for
her husband and their family.
They credit their happy life to
hard work. They are members
of Wesley -Willis United Church,
Clinton.
Mr. Cooper' will celebrate his
66th birthday, October 28, and
Mrs, 'C'ooper was 63 last February
10.
The celebrants have a family
iaf five sons: Clifford Cooper,
Clinton; Harvey, London; Edwin,
Clinton; Clayton, Woodstock;
Donnie, at home; and five dau
ghters: Mrs. Percy (Elsie) Elliott,
Port Colborne; Mrs, John (Helen)
Fraser, Bayfield; Mrs. Emerson,
(Mildred) Edwards, Clinton; Mrs,
Man (Mary) Rudson, and Miss
Prances Cooper, Toronto, Harvey
and Helen were twins. One son,
died in London in 1945.
