Clinton News-Record, 1951-08-09, Page 8PAGE EIGHT CLINTON NEWS COED THURSDAY, AUGUST' 9, . 1951x' Kincardine Kids Lick Legionettes Clinton's gallant Legionettes put up a stiff battle against Kincardine Legionettes in a WOAA ladies' softball match on the RCAF diamond last evening, but could not solve a strong de- fence and lost 13-3 to the north- ern invaders. A, large crowd attended — the largest of the season. The teams meet again in Kincardine Monday evening, and meanwhile Brussels plays here Friday evening. Play-offs get under way next week. Loss of the Dale sisters—Barb* ara by removal to another town, and Delores by a broken arm bone sustained in the last game— made Clinton weak in reserves, but did 'not account for some of the fumbling that went on. The visitors showed greater exper- ience. The girls in blue could not hit pitcher. Wilson of Kincardine worth a hoot, and she held the usually hard-hitting locals to six scattered bingles. In the mean- time, the northern girls hopped on Maxine Hunking for 17 hits, many of which were pretty "scratchy", However, Maxine had eight strikeouts to hercredit, three more than had Wilson. Lorine Garon scored the first Clinton run on a 'walk and single by Joanne Castle. Joanne and Shirley Proctor tallied in the seventh on good safe hits. The game was well handled by Phil Scarrow, behind the plate, and Jerry Straughan, on bases, both of RCAF. Kmcard • 'ire 300 404 20-13 17 1 1 Clinton 100 000 20— 3' 6 5 Kincardine: D, Wilson p, G.
