spending a few days with Mrs.

Lloyd Stook, BSA, Brampton,
was a weekend visitor at his home
in the village.
Mr. and Mae. Jack Yeo and
children motored on Sunday to
visit at Guelph and Elora.
Mr, and Mrs. Clayton Dodds,
Chicago, were recent guests with
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Cudmore and
Paul.
Mrs. Eldrid Yeo, Weston, has
visited the past week with, her
sons, Frank and Jack Yeo, and
their families.
Mr. and Mrs. K. Langford and
sons, Woodham, were Sunday
guests with Mr. and Mrs, W. Nor-
man and family.
Rev, and Mrs. S. Miner and
daughters, Florence, visited last
week with Mrs. Miner's parents,
Mr. and Mrs. E. J. TreWertha.
Miss Del Finlay has returned
from Detroit after a month's visit
there. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Finlay
accompanied her and are remain-
ing for a few days.
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Elliott, ac-
companied Mr. and Mrs. Ernie
Brown and little daughter, Clin-
ton, on a recent trip to visit at
Alleniord and at Saulble Beach.
Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Trewartha,
Mrs. W. Norman. Jack and Doug-
las, motored to Listowel on Fri-
day to visit with Mrs. Mel Elliott
and family. The boys remained
to visit for a few days, returning
early this week. Bass Elliott ac-
companied them and will be at
their home for a few days.
refiner Minister Visits
Rev, and Mrs. Campbell Tav-
ener, TIlrorndele, spent a part of
their vacation renewing acquaint-
ances in this community. While
here they were the guests of Mrs.
J. B. MaelVIath, and, on Thursday
evening of Mr. and Mrs, John
Huller.
Successful Picnic
The WA and 'VMS ladies held
a successful picnic last Tuesday at
the home of Mrs. Edward Grigg.'
There was a good attendance,
with several children present.
Among those who attended was',
Miss S. Acheson whose many
friends were happy to welcome.

Visitor From England
Miss Louie Norton Cooper ar-
rived recently at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. James V. Correll
and family, where she will visit
until the end of August. Miss
Cooper is Mns. Corran's sister, and
lives at Tunbridge Wells, Kent,
England, where she is the matron
of a (convalescent hospital for
small children.

and sons, Douglas and Donald,
Brantford, visited with Mr. and

Has Close Call
A two-year-old daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Riley un-
fortunately fell down the outside
stair steps on Monday, but with-
out serious injury.
Improved in Health
J. W. McCool, who has been
seriously ill in St. Joseph's Hos-
pital, London, has returned home.
Ills many friends are pleased to
see him home and so improved
in health.
Falls Down Stairs
Mr, and Mrs. Robert Youngblut
visited at the home of Dr. L.
Whitely, Gorrie, on Sunday. The
doctor had the misfortune to fall
part way down the stairs at his
home recently, hurting his neck,
he was rushed to Listowel Hos-
pital.
WA to Meet
The WA will hold its meeting
in the basement of the church on
Thursday, August 16, with a pro-
gram at two o'clock and a bazaar
at three o'clock with various
booths such as: a fish pond, a
touch -and -take table, and a sew-
ing booth of various kinds of ar-
ticles, after which a tea will be
served. Everyone is welcome.

important part in victory. Again and again, in the battles of 1939-45
and in Korea, Infantry has proved itself - "Queen of Battles".
The job of the infantryman has become tougher, more complex.
Ile must be able to handle more weapons and to meet a greater
variety of situations in defence and attack.

Enroimdnt Standards:
To enlist you must: •
1. Volunteer to serve anywhere.
2. Be 17 to 40 (Tradesmen to 45).
3. Meet Army requirements.
4. Married men will be accepted.
Terms of Engagement:
You will be enrolled in the Canadian Army
Active Force for a period of three years.
All men are eligible for Overseas Service. If
the Military situation permits, married men
after one year's service Overseas and single
men after two years' service Overseas may
be returned to Canada at which time they
may request discharge even if they have not
completed full three years' service.
Conditions of Service:
Current rates of pay and allowances. Serve
for 3 years or make it a career.
Veterans' Benefits:
Reinstatement in civil employment. Unem-
ployment Insurance and other appropriate
benefits under Veterans' Charter as ex-
tended by Parliament,
Other Ranks - Retention of present Re-
serve Force rank or the rank held in Second
World War, subject to proving qualifica-
tions in service within a 90 -day period.
Officers - Short Service Commissions will
be granted to officers who do not wish to
enroll in the Active Force on a career basis.
