A Woman's Viewpoint on This and That
By MBA
IT pays to advertise --in the
News -Record . . . As a result of
our lamentation about our bath-
ing suit in last week's •paper, one
of our readers, Mrs. Cliff Epps
thought something should be done
about it . . The result—a pleas-
ant afternoon at Bayfield — the
sun shone brightly and the water
left nothing to be desired
And our tourquoise • satin suit
was well used for a whole after-
noon ... Also we will take back
all the nasty things we said about
Bayfield . With nice weather,
it really is a grand spot for a
picnic and to spend a summer
afternoon .

ONE thing every newspaper
tries to avoid, is what is known
in the trade as a typographical er-
ror, i.e., when a letter or word
is left out or changed when be-
ing set in type arid isn't caught
by the proof reader .......seems
that when this happens, it al-
ways occurs in a place which
causes embarrassment or humor
So much so, that it has be-
come one of ow American forms
of humor The Reader's Di-
gest 'even devotes a page to "Slips
that pass in the type" . And
judging from the credit lines to
each of these "slips", the small
town weekly is no more guilty
of such "boners" than the city
daily--a]htough we dare say it
hears more about it—because its
readers are in closer contact with
the newspaper

HERE is an apology the Bow-
manville Statesman wrote recent-
ly to correct such an error .
It is rather amusing .
"LAST week The Statesman to
all appearance instituted a new
style in wedding write-ups, not
to mention attire, in the account
of the Cryderman-Rundle wed-
ding . . . A line was left out in

the write-up, ,,with the. result:,
'The bride's mother wore a cor-
sage of red roses and navy and..

full description was; 'The bride's.

and navy and white accessories'-..
THIS shows what can happen
when the linotype operator stops
to swat a fly and resumes his
work a minute later. He finds
the words, 'wore a,' and continues
happily to the end, not realizing
that these words appeared in two
different lines.This is the reason
we have proof-readers, of course.
But this time we slipped up, and
what a slip. The Statesman
tenders its apologies to all con-
cerned" . , .
