HOLDUP VICTIM
AT VVOODBRIDGE
CLINTON NEWS -RECORD
THURSDAY, MAY i 17, 196
W. Robert Miller, 21, account-
ant of The Royal Bank of Can-
ada branch at Woodbridge, for-
rnerly teller et Clinton brands,
and son of Deputy Reeve W. J.
Muller, Clinton; figured proinin
eptly as one of the victims of a
holdup of the bank early Theory
day afternoon last.
In the robbery, three armed
bandits escaped with $9,646 after
firing six shots at witnesses on
the main street. They lett be-
hind eight black feathers -osten-
sibly for the light meinbers of
the staff.
The holdup occurred shortly
after 2 p.m., Robert Miller, said
that two men entered the bank.
They were wearing masks.
"This is a holdup," one said.
"I actually thought they were
kidding," Miller said. "Then a
third man, who seemed to be the
leader, came in. He vaulted' the
rail and poked a gun at me.
"'This is a stickup - I'm not
fooling,' he said."
The men apparently were com-
pletely at home in the bank, Mil-
ler said. They knew the number
of persons employed. They no-
ticed the absence of the manager
and wanted to know yyhere he
was.
The leader of the bandits drove
Miller at gun point to the vault
as his two assistants began scoop-
ing money from the tellers' money
drawers into cloth bags. The main
vault door was open but the two

interior safes were locked.
"Open the damn thing quick,"
the gunman demanded, prodding
Miller with his gun.
"I told frim I didn't know how,"
Miller said.
"Who does?" the gunman ask-
ed, "The bank manager," Miller
said.
The gunmen asked where the
manager was, and Miller told h'[in
that E. G. Newans was at' the
music festival. The gunman prod-
ded Miller back into the main
room of the bank.
"Apparently the guy here likes
music," he told his companions.

When it conies to paint, your eyes can fool you badly.
Any paint looks good when you first apply it. But how
will it look in five years ... yes, even one year?

RAISES$2,000
FOR CROSS
Clinton and district raised
$2,009.59 in the recent Red Cross
C4ampaign, es against $1,770 in
1949, the last time 'the drive was
operated locally.
The total wag raised as felows:
Clinton, $1,230; rural, $325; RCAF,
$228; Londesboro, $226. In Clin-
ton, no less than 525 homes par-
ticipated with donations.
A. J. McMurray, local chair-
man, has received the following
letter from S. H. Young, Ontario
campaign chairman: "From the
report (from London Branch), we
learn that the citizens of Clinton
contributed over $2,000 and this
was clue, in great part, to the
splendid leadership which you
have personally given to organ-
izing the canvass. The Campaign
this year was the most important
one that has been undertaken
since World War II, and it is
therefore reassuring to note the
support provided by Clinton.
Please accept our sincere thenks,
and I hope you can convey some
measure of our appreciation to all
who have been associated with
youor contributed in any way to
the total obtained in your com-
