A wonderful time was report-
ed by everyone when the mem-
bers of Londesboro branch of the
Women's Institute journeyed' to
the Clinton Grill for their first

their "sister" the members set
down to a delicious turkey din-
ner. A toast to The King was
proposed py Mrs Fairservice, and
to the Institute by Mrs. K. Mc-
Vittie.
Mrs, D. J. Lane reviewed a
book on the early life in :Canada.
Miss Villa Fraser led in 'com-
munity singing with her accord-.
ian.
Mrs. Fairservice was surprised
with a small gift from the Insti-
tixte as en expression of grati-
tude for_ her untiring efforts as
president. Mrs. A. Collson mov-
ed a. vote of thanks to the speak-
er and entertainer.
Each member received a new
Sunshine Sister for the coming
year, and the evening came to a
close with the singing of 0 Can-
ada.
WI Officers Named
The monthly meeting of Lon-
desboro branch of- the Women's
Institute was held in:the Com-
munity Hall, Londesboro, on
Thursday, April 5, with the press -
dent, Mrs. Fairservice, in the
chair.
Mrs. L. Scrimgeour, District
President, installed the following
newsy -elected officers: president,
Mrs. Robert Fairservice; first
vice-president, Mrs. S. Brenton; ,
second vice-president, Mrs. T.
Allan; secretary, Mrs. A. Clark;
treasurer, Mrs. W. Manning; press
secretary, Mrs. L. Pipe; district
representatives, Mrs. A. Fangrad,
Mrs. S. Lyon. Mrs. Brenton end
Mrs. Reed were appointed to plan
activities for the months of May,
June and July.
A representative of Huron
County Health Unit showed pic-
tures and Miss 'Nora Cunningham
spoke on "Cancer". Mrs. C. Craw-
ford gave a demonstration on the
proper way to make a bed, as-
sisted by Mrs. S. Lyon. Mrs.
Crawford also acted as a model
for Miss Thelma Glazier of Pen-
nebaker's Drug Store, who gave
a facial and the theway to
"make up" Also, group
indebted to Pennebaker's for
samples passed out.
The roll call was answered with
the paying of fees and the host-
esses served refreshments. ,

the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Wil-
liam Wells, Clinton, on Sunday.

and Mr. and Mrs. Percy Gibbings.

Deceased was married alt Wier

ton December 21, 1898, to Axchir-
bald William Babies, Wiarton. In
January 1919, the family moved
to St. Thomas, where they re-
sided until Mr. Baines'. death in
June 1933.
Since her husband's death, Mrs.
Baines had resided in Wiarton,
and with her daughter in Barrie
and Clinton, moving to Clinton
in July 1946, and residing in
Clinton until her death.
Surviving are one daughter,
Margaret, Mrs. R. S. Atkey, Clin-
ton; and one sister, Mrs. E. Rus-
sell Forrest, Bloomingdale, Mich.

The Mary, Grierson Mission
Band held its Easter thankoffering
on Sunday night, April 1, in the
basement of the church with the
president, -Muriel Shobbrook, in
the chair and Marguerite Lyon
at the piano. Meeting opened with
call to worship -and hymn 30,
followed by prayer; scripture
was read by Mervyn Durnin. The
Band' gave a number "The Gar-
den." The Easter story was giv-
en by June Manning. Birthday
pennies were given by Marjorie
Young. Arlyn Powell favored
with a piano solo. The temper-
