Clinton Colts defeated New
Hamburg in • Goderich Memorial
Arena Tuesday night 8-5 before
a crowd of over one thousand.
This was the first game in the
best -sof -five Intermediate "B"
group semi-finals. Milverton and
Centralda RiCiAF are the ether
semi-finalists.
The game Was fast and rugged
throughout. Until the last four
minutes of play in the third per-
iod each team played good fast,
clean hockey. At this tune Colts
were two goals ahead end New
Hamburg reverted to rough
tactics which restLted in four
minor penalties and one miscon-
duct for them.
New Hamburg scored early in
the first period but Cam Maltby
evened the court 25 seconds lat-
er on a nice play with brother
Clare and Doug Bartliff. New
Hamburg scored again but Clare
Maltby came back with the equal-
izer four minutes later; this end-
ed the scoring in first period at
2-2. Play was fairly even in this
period, but the Colts missed many
scoring chances on wild shooting
around the net.
In the second period Clanton
had the better part of the pray,
This period produced some of the
best hockey seen this season.
Clinton scored three times to two
from New Hamburg and went in-
to the third period one goal up.
At the 8.15 mark in the third
New Hamburg again tied the
count. Forty-two seconds later
Bill Counter took a passout from
Colquhoun in the Clinton de-
fence zone, outskated the lone
New Hamburg defenceman and
neatly outguessed the goalie to
give Colts the lead. Before the
period was over Clare Maltby
scored twice to make sure of a
win for Clinton; one of the goals
coming late in the period with
Colts playing four men to three
for New Hamburg.
The Maltby brothers accounted
for five goals, Clare getting four
of them, while the McEwan
Draper -Counter line' each had a
goal to their credit. Clinton's
third line was used sparingly.
Doug Bartliff led many danger-
ous rushes for Clinton, but just
couldn't get into the scoring.
Bartliff, Colquhoun and Neilans
played a steady game on defence
for Colts, " breaking up many a
New Hamburg play.
For New Hamburg, Boone, Ar-
nold and Binigentan were always
dangerous on the offensive.
Return Game Saturday
Colts go back to New Hamburg
Saturday night for the second
game with the thPrd game slat-
ed for Clinton Tuesday night.

The Red, White and Blue
Clinton squads clashed with the
Gold and Black Seaforth quin-
tets on February 15 at SeaLorfh,
When the last whistle sounded
after three thrill -packed con-
tests, Clinton had managed to
win them all but not before most
of the crowd had yelled them-
selves hoarse.
In the Senior Girls' game,
Clinton staged a second half
comeback after trailing et half
time to win 22-11. Joanne Castle
and the Hunking sisters proved
the best for Clinton, while Ruth
Keyes and M. L. Sues kept Sea-
forth in the battle.
Once again the better balance
of the Clinton Senion Boys' team
paid off enabling them to win
from e determined Seaforth team
25-14. George Beatty and Jack
Porter sparked the Clinton of-
fensive while Barry Pinch end
John Wilson proved strong on
the defence. The best for Sea -
forth were Chapmanwith six
points and Eckert with lour. This
game was won by Clinton in the
last quarter after wearing down
a fighting Seaforth team.
The Junior contest went to the
last minute and had both coaches
talking to themselves and the
fans hoarse before Ron Carter
clumped in a foul shot to win
the game 24-23.
Seaforth displayed a fighting
team that led for more than half
the game. Clinton team proved
their mettle with the chips down.
Bob Fines, Terry Jenkins, Mur-
ray Maltby and Ron Carter play-
ed fine basketball for Clinton and
finally won out.
