Sailor Returns
George Bell` spent a few hours
on Saturday with his parents, Mr.
and ` Mrs. Charles Bell. The
"4Vsndoc," on which he has been
selling put into, Goderich port
last Saturday morning. She swill
be berthed there forthe winter.
Going to Korea
The Korean war was brought a
little closer to pupils of Hay-
field Public School last week
when they learned that a former
pupil, Eddie Apfelbeck, had en-
listed with the Princess Pets in
the i{orean Brigade. Eddie is
the second son of Mr. and Mrs.
J. Apfelbeck, West Lorne, who
conducted a bakery here from
1938 to 1947. We wish him "Good
luck "
Successful' Bazaar
A successful bazaar and tea
was held at the Albion. Hotel on
Saturday last under the auspices
of `the Guild of Trinity Church.
Mrs." L. Scotchmer and Mrs, R.
L. Bassett had charge of the tea.

H. F. Gairdner Iooked after the
ni&stery Christmas tree while
Mrs. Willard Sturgeon, Mrs. R.

heard were at the baking and
fancy goods tables.

Ladies' Guild Meets
St, Mark's Anglican Guild held
its monthly meeting in - the
church on Thursday with Mrs. S.
Daer in charge of the program.
After the opening hymn, Mrs. S.
Daer led in prayer. The Scrip-
ture was read by Mrs. Ed Davies.
Mrs. Thomas Haggitt gave a read-
ing, Mrs. Alvin Letherland gave
a report of the Deanery meeting
held in St. Paul's Church, Wing -
ham; Mrs. Gordon Taylor rend-
ered a solo, accompanied by. Mrs.
W. J. Craig. The president, Mrs.
A. Kirkconnell took charge for
the business period and offered
the closing prayer.
Fireside Farm Forum
Two very pleasant evenings
have been spent the last -two Mon-
days by, the Fireside' Farm Forum.
The meeting a ( week ago was.
held at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Bob Dalton with a good turnout;
25 adults being present. After
listening to the broadcest on
"What's happened to the Country
Doctor," a discussion took place.
Progressive euchre was played,
the winners being: ladies: most
games and lone hands, Mrs.
George Hoggart; consolation, Miss
Perna pexter men: most games
and lone hands, Hugh Campbell;
consolation, Harold Storey,
Mr. and, Mrs. Robert Jamieson
qpened their home on Monday
evening, December 4, when 18,
were present. After the broad-
cast a lengthy discussion on 'the
topic "The Pension fer Every
One." took place. Two very Inter-
esting contests were conducted.
Progressive euchre' was , played,

games, Miss Ferne Dexter; lone
hands, Mrs. Oliver Anderson; con-
solation, Mrs. George Hoggart;
men: most games and lone hands,
Wesley Hoggart; consolation, Don-
ald ` Buchanan.

Young People Meet
The B -I, Young People's So-
ciety of Burns and Londesboro
United Churches held its meet-
ing in Burns United Church on
December 3. The meeting was in
charge. of Harry Lear, . culture
convener, and was in the form
of the singing of hymns. After
the singing of each hymn the life
history of the writer was read by

programme, lunch was served,

(No. 10) are holding their annual
Christmas . concert on Monday
evening; December 18, at eight
o'clock.
Training for RCMP
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Arkellmot-
ored to Toronto on Friday to
meet their son, ' Ken, who is In
training at Ottawa with the Royal
Canadian Mounted Police; He
returned with them for the week-
end.
Farm Forum Meets
S.S. No. 4 Farm Forum, meet-
ing was held on Monday even-
ing in the .school, with an at-
tendance of 27.
The radio topic.. was "A Pen-
sion for Everyone." This was a
live topic for discussion. It was
decided that the majority were
in favour of the government perl-
sion plan without a meanstest,
at the age of 65, at $40 or $50
a month, according to the cost
of . living.
Dr. R. M.. Aldis, director of
Huron Health Unit, was pres
ent, and showed some splendid
films in connection with his work
and' answered questions in re-
gard to the work of the Health
Unit. Irvine ' ebbutt moved a
vote of thanks to Dr. •Aldis.
Leslie Pearson accompanied by
Mrs. Jim Lobb at the piano,
rendered two -very fine solos.
Lunch was served at the close
of the meeting by the ladies. The
next meeting will be held at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Carman
Tebbutt.

X-rays taken at Clinton Public
Hospital revealed a fractured left
wrist.
