Colts' Applecart
Upset by Mitchell
(By RSA)
Mitchell Legionnaires virtually
assuredthemselves the champ-
ionship of the Huron -Perth Base-
ball League and possession of
the Supertest Trophy, when they
walloped Clinton Colts here last
night 13-2 before a large crowd.
All the Mitchell lads have to
do is to beat St. Marys at home
tonight and Centralia RCAF to-
morrow night to take the hon-
ours, held so long by the Colts.
And both these teams are tail -
enders end should be easy pick-
ings for the hot Mitchell team.
It was a nice game for four
innings with the score 2-1 for the
Colts. But then, in the first of
the fifth, all hell broke loose
and the Mitchell lads rounded the
bases not less then 12 times, with
17 batters coming to the plate
before the side was retired.
There just was nothing to it.
The visitors pounced on Bob
Draper, Bob Craig and Gordon
Stock without much trouble, and
the safe hits showered down,
just where the Colts weren't.
A couple of errors did not help
matters much, but actually hard-
- hit balls told the story.
A very pleasing feature of the
genie, at the end of the fifth in-
ning when all was safe for Mit-
chel, was the presentation of a
beautiful tri -light lamp by the
Clinton Club to Bert .White,
Mitchell centre fielder, who gave
many years of very fine service
to the Colts before his removal
to Mitchell a year ago.
Bert very joyously accepted
this well-deserved gift, but felt
rather embarrassed that his
adopted team should so sheilack
his friends of yesteryear. It all
was taken with a grin and a
smile, and needless to say, Bert
was very happy in one way and
very regretful in another. John
Livermore, president of the Clin-
ton Club, made the presentation
and stated a few very appropriate
remarks regarding Bert's value to
the Colts of years gone by and
the players' wishes for the,future.

Legionettes Lose
First of Play-offs
Clinton Legionettes found the
going pretty tough in their first
play-off match in the WOAA
Intermediate Ladies' Softball
series.
The Dublin-Seaforth combina-
tion, travelling under the name
of Dublin, hit town Tuesday
evening and ganged away, home
with a convincing 19-2 victory.
The same teams hook up again
at Dublin tonight and the Clin-
ton gals must win to stay in the
running, as it is a best -two -in -
three series.
Club officials' stated after the
game here that Legionettes are
capable of . playing much better
ball and are capable of beating
Dublin. It would be nice to
see it!
The winners had quite an edge
in age and experience, but even
at that, the Clinton kids were
much below form. One of. the
reasons, we ere told, was lack
of practice. Probably, too much
Reunion -or something! ,
Phyllis Bell and Wilma Mc-
Michael shared twirling duties
for Clinton. Joanne Castle and
Jeanne Garon tallied Cliriton's
only runs.
