400 STATIONS
• Conducting a 24-hour test at.
the, weekend, about 50 members
of Clinton Amateur Radio Club
made oontactwith approximately
400 other "ham" stations in var-
ious parts of the world, and again
tested under simulated emergency
conditions 'the ability of ama-
teur radio station operators to
maintain communications when
normal channels are disrupted.
WO 2 R. L. Kirkby, president
of the,Club, stated that the main
purpose of the competition was
to give amateurs a chance to
test their equipment under" em-
ergency conditions. He reported
it very successful.
The test, which took place from
5 p.m, Saturday to 5 p.m. Sun-
day, concentrated on marring as
many contacts as passible to
show the value of the amateur
stations, and also to gain as high
standing as possible in the com-
petition of the American Radio
Relay League, conducted, for sta-
tions all over North America.
The site of 'the test was one -
and -a -half miles north of Holmes-
ville, on W. R. Lobb's farm near
the Maitland River. Nine trans-
mitters werein use, with a staff
of about 20 operators, operating
in relays through the 24 hours,
The farthest 'contact was a sta-
tion in Panama, Canal Zone,
Central America.
In the competition a year ago,
the Clinton Club finished second
in Canada, with about 250 con-
tacts. The site of the test was
near Bemniller, on the north side
of the Maitland River.
The Clinton Amateur Radio.
Club will be host in Jowett's
Grove, Bayfield, July 9, at a
picnic for all the "hams" in On-
tario, with 400 expected,
