A telephone convention was
held in Hotel London on Thurs.,..
day, June 15. Those attending
from this township were Com-
missioners Clarence Sturdy, Oliv-
er Edwards and Bert Rowden,
secretary -treasurer Charles Wise,
and lineman Ewan Ross.
Mrs. E. J. Trewertha attended
a family picnic in Exeter on
Saturday.
Successful YPU Party
Despite a heavy Scotch whist
hanging over the river, the YPU
held its Weiner roast as schedul-
ed last Friday evening, at. Pip-
er's Dam, Goderich. ' The com-
mittee, Alex Glen, Lance Saddl-
er and Dewar Norman, had
brought wood for a large bonfire
and provided quantities of soft
drinks and hot dogs. The group,
more than 20 in number, enjoyed
a sing -song before leaving for
home.
Falls Suddenly DI
Rev. C. Tavener was taken
quite ill suddenly on Sunday,
necessitating a doctor's care. In
the emergency, Mrs. Tavener
conducted a short worship sr -
vice at the village church, after
which Sunday School was held.
We are glad to report that Mr.
Tavener is now active again as
usual. This coming Sunday he
will preach his farewell sermon
before leaving for his new charge
in Thorndale.

Rev. Hugh C. Wilson Speaks
Successful anniversary ser-
vices were held in Westfield
United Church Sunday with Rev.
Hugh C. Wilson, Clinton, as guest
speaker. At the afternoon ser-
vice the choir, with Miss Winni-
fred Campbell presiding, at the.
organ, rendered an anthem and
a trio from Auburn — Misses
Florence Wilson, June Cunning-
ham and Margaret Jackson—rend-
ered two numbers with Mrs. R.
D. Munro accompanist. At the
evening service a male choir
rendered an anthem and Stan.
Sibthorpe of Blyth, accompanied
by Miss Walsh, rendered two
solos. The church was beautifully
decorated with baskets of peonies,
iris, snowbaIIs and ferns.
Attended Service
Morning Star lodge, A.F. and
A.M., No. 309, attended divine
service in Knox Presbyterian
Church Sunday afternoon. Rev.
R. G, MacMillan, Goderich, was
the special speaker, and spoke
from Ecclesiastes, chapter 12,
verse 14, A male choir with Ar-
thur Yungblyt presiding at the
organ led in the service of
praise. William Craig, Jr., ac-
companied by Mrs. H, Worsell
sang two solos. Following the
service the lodge adjourned' to
the Foresters' Hall.' A vote of
thanks was extended to Mr. Mac-
Millan for his inspiring message.
A number of visiting brethren
from Goderich lodge were pres-
ent.
