YPU Meetings
, The Christian Fellowship group
was in charge of the' meeting held
on January 3 at the home of
Kathleen Holmes. Eileen Pocock
acted as chairman, and read the
evening's topic. The Scripture
was read by Eileen Gliddon, and
Esther Ross contributed a poem,
"The Touch of the Master's
Hand." Mr. Tavener led in
prayer. At the conclusion of the
worship period games, contests
arid candy were enjoyed.
Molly Finley was hostess at her
home for the January 9 meet-
ing, with the Missionary Group
preparing the programme. Reta
Yen concludeci the worship ser-
vice, Mrs. Tavener leading in
prayer, and Florence Stirling giv-
ing the Scripture. The topic, a
Chinese stely, was taken by Mrs.
Donald Jervis, and, an article on
New Year's customs in China con-
tributed by Rata Yeo. Kathleen
Holmes conducted a cake contest
won by Florence Stirling, a re-
lay, and a competition in skill
with Lance Saddler as winner.
Ewan Ross announced that play
practice would commence this
week. The caste includes Pam
Saddler, Molly Finlay, Eileen
Glidden, Eileen Pocock, Dora
Heard, Kathleen kHolmes, Ewan
Ross, Dewar Norman, Denald
Jervis and Kenneth Trewartha,
with Reta Yeo es stage -manager
and Esther Riess as director.
The YPU is invited next Mon-
day to be the guests of Sandra
Williams at her home in the
village.
Sunday School Annual
There was a good representa-
tive attendance at the Sunday
School annual meeting held in
the church on Wedneeeay, Jan-
uary 4, with Rev. Mr. Tavener in
charge. In his introduatory. ad-
dress Mr. Tavener commented on
the success of the Sunday School
in the past year and the faith-
fulness of teachers and officers.
lie said, in part, that church
members should attend annual
meetings to seek ways of helping
in this important work, because
the Sunday School stood as a
challenge to us all. Tasks were
assigned with comparative ease
showing that those present were
in harmony with these opinions.
Officers were elected as fol-
lows: Superintendent, Albert
Bond; assistant, Elmer Potter.
Several other young men includ-
ing Kenneth Trewartha, Barry
Walters, Frank Yeo, Norman

Community Club Annual
Twenty-nine attended the Com-
munity Club's annual business
meeting in the school on January
6, when election of officers was
held, and reports submitted. The
President, Harry Williams, was
chairmen, and D. E. Glidden,
secretary -treasurer, read the re-
port showing receipts of $409.17.
Running expenses including or-
chestra, prizes, lunch, etc. amount-
ed to $189.01. Capital expeeses,
dishes, chairs, card tables, coffee -
maker, totalled $105.65. Dona-
tions of $10 and $15 were made
to the Clinton Public Hospital
and to the, Red Croes, erspeotiv-
ely. There was a cash balance
of $89.51.

Declines in Past Year
According to the vital statistics
for Goderich for 1949, there were
195 births, a decrease of 18 from
the previous year. The number
of deaths was 78, four fewer than
in 1948. For the first half of
1949, there were 39 marriages
registered. New regulations for
the last half of the year required
registration o f marriages i n
Toronto.
The population of Goderich is
4,885; in 1948 it was 4,908.
