Albert Vanstone
(By our Bayfield Correspondent)
Death came suddenly on Dec-
ember 21, to Albert Vanstone,
London, in his 84th, year. He was
the son of the late Thomas Van -
stone and Elizabeth Ifelterbourne.
Born in Thamesford he came to
Bayfield as a child, when his fath-
er, a miller took charge of Thomp-
son's flour nbill. They also lived
in Zurich for a time, but he con-
sidered Bayfield his home, and
here he grew up and took part in
concerts with the Ferguson and
Peck boys. As a young man, he
fished out of Bayfield, one year
out of Wiarton. He also sailed
the Great Lakes and had worked
oar the marine survey boat "The
Bayfield." He operated a bake-
shop in Harrison, Mach„ for a
time.
He was married' to Miss Alice
Green, Bayfield, who predeceased
him in 1918. He operated a gen-
eral store in Wingham for a while,
then moved to Gerrie where he
was in the bakery business. In
1929, he left Gorrie and went to
London. Retiring in 1937, he re-
turned to Bayfield where he kept
house for himself until June, 1954,
when he went to be with his
daughter in London. Mr, Van -
stone was possessed of a remark-
ably clear memory. He could re-
cite poetry learned in his youth
and had a fund of tales of his ex-
periences in the early days. He
could also turn his hand to dif-
ferent crafts, and so kept active.
Surviving are three daughters,
Mrs. Charles (Edith) Ritchie; Mrs.
Clayton (Norma) Story; Mrs.
Jack (Dorothy) Moore, all of Lon-
don, and two sons, Harold, Kitch-
ener, and Garfield, Parry Senn
also 12 grandchildren. He
survived by a sister Mergere
Mrs. E, 13. Hale, London.
Funeral service was conducts
by the Rev. Carlisle Musser, H;
eti Avenue United Church, Loi
don, from the Evans funeral hom
Hamilton Road, on Friday, De.
ember 23. Interment was mac
in Gorrie Cemetery, at about 11
p.m.
