E. Lewis Evans
Word has been received by Miss
Kate-'Wilsianis, Bayfield; of. the
death of her cousin, E. Lewis
'Evans, New Albany, 'Mich., who
was born in Clinton in 1865, a
brother of the late Frank Evans,
and the nephew of the Misses
Cole, .Huron Street, Clinton.
Death occurred early Sunday,
July 31, and the funeral was held'
on August 2, in St. Paul's Epismummansumummumminummium

Mr. Evans was the retired Presi-
dent and secretary -treasurer of
the Tobacco Wolters Internation-
al Union. He had been secretary -
treasurer from 1895 to 1926, and
thcr, took on the added duty of
president until 1940.
In the early years of the To-
bacco Workers Union, Mr. Evans
struggled hard to alleviate •poor
working conditions in the "sweat
shops" and members of the dr-
ganization are reaping benefits
from his early experiences.
He was a 50 -year member of
the Parkland Lodge of Masons,
Louisi'ille.
Surviving are his wife, Anna M.
Evans, a son, Samuel L. Evans,
Cloquet, Minns; a daughter, Miss
Louise Evans, New Albany; a sis-
ter, Miss Mildred Evans, Seattle,
Wash.; two grandchildren and a
teat- andchild.

Frank McConnell
Word has been received by rela-
tives and friends of the; sudden
death of/Frank McConnell, Kind-
ei.ley, Sask.,who was killed in a
tractor accident on August 2. The
funeral was held an Friday, Aug-
ust 5.
He is survived by his, wife and
two daughters; also three sisters
and three brothers.
He was a son of the late Hugh
McConnell and Minnie Nott, who
at one time resided on the London
Road, Tuckersmith Township. He
was born near Kippen, and while
still quite young went to Sask-
atchewan with his parents. > He
and his family visited here in the
fall of 1951.

Mrs. To FulfordMrs. Thomas Fulford, 79, died
on Tuesday in. Clinton Public
Hospital. She was the forever
Mary Johnston, Hullett Township,
and had lived in Clinton ,practic-
ally all her life. Her husband died
in 1950;
She was a member of St. Paul's
Anglican Church. •
Surviving are four sons,' William,
Artbu:r and Earl, Clinton; Charles,
Goderich; and one daughter, Mrs.
Fred Fritzley, Goderich.
Resting at the Ball and Murch
funeral home, High Street Clin-
ton, where services will be eon -
ducted this afternoon (Thursday)
at two o'clock. Interment will be
in Clinton Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Harry Wat-

Fremlin, John Leppirigto, Mayor
Morgan J. Agnew and Councillor

Beattie funeral home, Rattenbury.

L. Potter, daughter of the late
Mr. and Mrs. Thomaa J. Potter,
who passed awayin Clinton Public
Hospital, on August 1, in her 65th
year. Rev. H. C. Wilson, Clinton,
conducted the service.
Pallbearers were Ira Merrill,
Lorne and Leslie Jervis, George
Potter, Bert and Howard Trewar-
tha; flower -bearers were Edward
Grigg, Elmer Potter, Michael Mc-
Farlane and Frank Potter, all of
Goderich Township. Interment was
in Clinton Cemetery.
Born on December 30,` 1890,
Miss Potter lived all her life in
this area. She worked as a prac
tical nurse, and of later years was
at the Clinton Public Hospital,
where she was 'cared for during
the final six weeks illness which,
ended her life. She -was wei1-
known for her care of- and patience
with the sick
She was a member of Holnies-
ville United Church.
Surviving are four brothers,
William, Lucknow; John and Clar-
ence, Goderich Township, and
Fred, Clinton.
Friends attended the funeral
from Springford, Mitchell, Gode-
rich, Lueknow .and Shakespeare.

Mrs, James R. Stirling. !
Mr, and Mrs. Grant Stirling and

Sunday to spend a few days'along
the St. Lawrence River.
Mrs. Ephraim Snell was hon-
oured on the occasion of her birth-
day, when 25 neighbours and
friends were entertained at the
home of her son-in-law and dau-
ghter, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin: Betties.
.A. pleasant evening was spent
playing bingo, and Mrs. Snell.
played the piano afterwards, for a
sing -song. The ladies served lunch,

Bible School
The children of Porter's Hill and
surrounding district have enjoyed
the past two weeks attending
Bible School that was held. In
Porter's Hill school, A concert
was held on Friday evening last
which brought the school to a
close. Much credit is due Albert
Martin, Zurich and his teaching
staff for their fine work.
WA Meets
The Women's Association of
Grace Church, Porter's Hill, met
in the church basement on Thitrs-
day last. The president, Mrs. A.
Lockhart, was in charge of the
meeting which opened by singing
"He Leadeth Me, 0 Blessed
Thought". Mrs. Austin Harris led
in prayer and the Scripture lesson
was read by Dorothy Cox, Roll
can was answered by giving the
name of "my first Sunday School
teacher".

Herisall United. Church was the
scene of a wedding Of wide inter-
est on Friday, August 5, ' when
Dorothy EIaine, daughter. of Mr.
and Mrs, Frederick Charles Beer,
Hensall, was united in marriage to
Ralph Duncan McArthur, son of
)Vir, and Mrs. Ralph L, McArthur,
Winnipeg, Man.
The candlelight 'ceremony' was
performed by the Rev. W. J. Rog-
ers; Lynwood, formerly of Hensaii.
Miss Greta Laminie, church org-
anist, provided traditional wedding
music and accompanied the soloist
Grant McDonald, Exeter, who
sang "The Lord's Prayer" and
"The -Wedding Prayer."
Given in marriage by her fath-
er, the bride wore a . beautiful
gown of silk nylon net with inserts
of lace over taffeta and lace jack-
et, Her finger-tip veil was held,
inlace with th a tiny headed pill
box. On her white prayer' book
were gardenias and white pom-
poms.
Mrs. John Beer was matron -of -
honor and wore sapphire blue net
with matching jacket and a blue
feather bandeau trinunetl with
diamonds. The bridesmaid was
Miss Carolyn Phillips, Toronto, in
pink tiered lace and net over taf-
feta and pink curled feather pill
box: They carried old fashioned
nose-gaysof pink and white flow-
ers with streamers to match their
gowns.
John Beer acted as groomsman
and the ushers were George Beer
and Jack Simmons.
A reception was held in the
church parlors. • The mother of
the bride wore a floor length gown
of -rosewood sheer trimmed with
mother-of-pearl,
dusty pink velvet
hat and corsage'of -gladioli cent-
ered with baby 'mums. In the ab-
sence of the groom's mother, Mrs.
F. H W. Phillips :assisted Mrs.
Beer' in receiving, She wore blue
sheer and pink lace with matching'
corsage. •
For travelling the bride chose a
pink linen sheath dress with white
accessories and corsage of pink
and white roses.
Out of town guests includedthe
groom's father, Ralph M, MCAr-
thur, Winnipeg, and others from
London Detroit,: Hamilton, ton;: Tor-
onto and Moose Jaw,
The bride and -groom left for a
honeymoon visit to Winnipeg and
points Brest. They will reside in
Moose Jaw, where: the groom is
stationed with the Royal Canad-
ian Air Force.
