After a lengthy waiting r period,
the advent of television broadcasts
eminating from Wingham in the
near future, has become a reality
The official letter of approval
from G, C, W. Brawne, Controller
of Telecommunications of the De-
partment of Transport, advised
CKNX that approval had been.
granted by the Federal cabinet,
and that construction work -could
now be begun.
A staggering amount of work
has to be done before actual pro-
gramming can get underway. In-
cluded on the immediate work
agenda is the construction of a
650 -foot tower in the south corner
of Carrick Township, for which
the surveying has, already been
completed. The1
p old Wingham High
School, has already, undergone
quite a face lifting, with the com-
pletion of the construction work
on the portion of the building to
be used as control room and con-
struction crews are hard at work
laying the ground work for the.
studio addition to the present
building.
The necessary equipment is ex-
pected to arrive around the second
week in August, at which time
CKNX and RCA engineers will
go right to work installing and
checking the equipment.
Viewers in the coverage area of
CKNX may expect programmes
designed to the local taste, as well
as top CBC and American net-
work shows. The actual "on air"
hours will be from four inthe
afternoon, until the conclusion of
the late night movie feature at
approximately , one a.m., seven
days a week.
The actual "on air" date is dif-
ficult to prophesy because of the
many intangibilities that can crop
up inthe installation of the com-
plex electronic equipment, but
with a reasonable amount of good
luck, operations are forecast for
around the middle of November.
With work going ahead at full
speed, Western Ontario residents
are assured by D. Hildebrand, pro-
gram manager, that local tele-
vision will become a reality this
year.
