In Good Plain `Sutter' Ever wonder how many dairy implements and products used the word butter? Officials of the Ontario Cream,'. Producers' Marketing Board did,. so they .checked a Funk and Wag - nail's dictionary, and learned, among others, about these: Butter bowl or butter carrier, a box for conveying butter uninjur- ed; Butter cow, butter crock, butter dairy, butter extractor„ butter fir- kin, (sometimes a measure), but- ter knife, butter ladle, butter man, butter mold, butter print, butter stamp, butter paddle butter pat, butter rations, butter tongs, butter tub, butter wife, butter woman, butter worker, creamery butter, dairy butter. Those, they found were the chief ones on the list, but the word but- ter and its derivatives took up a lot of space. Since butter has been so popular for so long, there were such words as butterfingered, but-' ter flip, butter milk and butterfly. There was even butter ale, which the dictionary described as beer brewed without bitter ingredients, and flavoured with butter, sugar and spices. And, having got that far, the cream producers stopped for lunch, at which was served plain, every- day tasty butter: 0 SEAFORTH AUCTIONEER SELLS HIS FARM TO NEW CANADIANS The 100 -acre farm of Harold Jackson on Highway 8, east of Seaforth, has been sold to Johan Wiliems, Holland, who is to get possession soon. Hog Producers Co-operative Selling Process Hogs From Ontario Farms In the livestock industry, hist- ory is being made. Starting last week, all Ontario - produced hogs sold for processing purposes will be marketed through the farmers' own organization, the Ontario Hog Producers Co-opera- tive. The hog producers of this prov- ince have the strongest and most effective sales force of any prov- ince or state in the North Ameri- can continent. The bargaining position of the producers will be increased because the new legis- tation permits the producers' sales- men to direct the hogs to the pro- cessor who is willing to pay the highest price, A larger percent- age of the hogs than formerly will be sold at the stockyards in Tor- onto and Montreal, as well as at the assembly points at Kitchener and perhaps other parts of the province, The balance of the hogs will be sold by the producers' mar- keting agendy through direct neg- otiations with the packers in On- tario and Quebec. All producers' cheques will be made payable 'at par at any Char- ered Bank in Ontario: settlements 'll be going out from the office t 2824 Dundas Street West, Tor- nto and at Bridge Street in Mon - real. Mr. J. Kohler, who has had a long and varied experience in the Livestock industry will direct the operations of the agency. About 2,000,000 hogs, with a total Valva of $80,000000 will be rniti'kated annually by the produc- ers' co-operative sales agency ap- pointed under the Farm Products Marlceting'T3oard. This movement is a progressive step in farm mar- keting in Canada. In 1951, when the Ontario hog producers did not have a selling agency, the Toronto price for the first week in June was $1.00 to $1.25 below Montreal; $1.00 above Winnipeg, Today, with the sell- ing agency, the Toronto price is only .50c below Montreal; $3.50 above Winnipeg. Salesmanship pays, and the On- tario hog producers are progress- ing in the field of salesmanship. t wt a 0 t Effuse! ENO CITIES SERVICE -Cities Service, Products hone 602 Clinton, Ont. I Gives Agriculture a Brightet Look Great changes have taken place in farming in recent years -changes that have brought new concepts of crop production and animal hus- bandry; soil and moisture conserva- tion; management and marketing.
