London Conference

Meets in Clinton
The London Conference exec-
rative of the Young People's Union
of the United Church met ' here
-last week with conference presi-
dent Miss' Ethel Allison, South
Woodslee, in' charge.
Important business was discus-
sed, and in attendance was the
Rev. C. J. Scott, Sarnia, and for-
merly of Blyth, who is the con-
ference counselor.
Of the' many attending were
Rev, Hugh C. Wilson, Wesley -
Willis United Church, Clinton;
James 13awtenheimer, Windsor,
convener of publicity; Miss Joy
Greenwood, Woodstock, secretary;
Miss Gail Manning, Londesboro,
president of the Huron Presby-
tery, YPU, and Miss Margaret IIoI-
land, Clinton,' leadership and`edu-
cation convener.
Steven Byles, Byron, one of the
18 executive members present, de-
scribed, a radio program over two
stations, which will be planned
for in the fall for presentation
early in 1956,
President Ethel Allison, will fly
to Sault St. Marie next week, to
bring greetings on behalf of the
Young People to those who are to
be ordained at the annual London
Conference meeting to be held
there
kindergarten Classes
Parents are requested to register oil children eligible
to attend Kindergarten Classes, commencing
September, 1955.
Children will be admitted on basis of age until accorn-
modation is filled. Register by letter not
later than June 20, 1955.
On day of enrolment in September, definite proof -of
age must be submitted to the Principal of
the Public School. • •

Report Of 47H
Club Project
The May meeting of the Clinton
Women's Institute was held in the
agricultural office board room with
30 members present. An interest-
ing exhibit of an invalid's tray
was explained by Mrs, Tyndall, It
was part of a 4-H Club project
called the "Milky Way", in which
the Junior Institute' was supervised
by Mrs. Radford and Mis, N.
Tyndall.
The program was in the charge
of Mrs, F. Ijayton and Mrs. H.
Menagban. Gwen Shorey and Judy
Halward gave the very excellent
speeches which won prizes in the
recentLegion Zone public speaking
contest. A piano duet by Jane
Batkin and Bev Boyes and a solo
by Bev were also much enjoyed.
Roll call was answered by giv-
ing "Housecleaning Hints". Mrs.
Shepherd was pianist and the
business meeting was conducted by
the president, Mrs. M. Batkin. It
was decided to apply for the WI
extension course on "Salads", with
"Home Care of the Sick" as a sec-
ond choice.
Mrs, C. Sturdy, Mrs. Managhan
and Mrs. M. Batkin were appointed
to complete arrangements for a
bus trip on June 16 to the WI
Museum at Stoney Creek and the
Pock Gardens at Hamilton.

Mrs. C. Sturdy and Mrs. R. Fear.l

Meets At Home
Of Mrs. W. Reid
The Woman's Missionary Society
and Woman's Association of Burn's
United Church, Hullett, met at the
home of Mrs. Watson Reid on May
26 for their May meeting. Mrs.
Roe '.opened the meeting with
Psalm 714, followed by prayer by
Mrs. Leslie Reid.
Mrs. George Watt read the
Scripture. Mrs. Roe gave the study
book on India. Mrs. George Carter
took the business part in the ab-
sence of Mrs, T. J. White: An
invitation was accepted to Kinburn
on June 14.
Mrs. John Riley, president of the
WA, auctioned off the articles of
the auction basket, bringing a total
of $8.

Turner's Church
WA Hears of :Rally
The Woman's Association of
Turner's . United Church met at
the home of Mrs. Ernie Crich on
May 16. Scripture was read by
Mrs. W. P. Roberts. Mrs. Mervin
Falconer Ied in prayer. The topic
on "Mother" was given by Mrs.
Jack Turner. The roll call was
answered with the books of the
Old Testament in rotation. Mrs.
F. Falconer thanked the WA for
the plant she received while in
the hospital.
Mrs. W. P. Roberts gave an int,
eresting report on the rally in Exe•
to the week before and Mrs. Jack
Turner conducted a contest. Sev-
eral business topics were discus-
sed. A dainty lunch was served
by the hostess and her assistants.
The next meeting will be held in
the church on Thursday evening,
June 16 at 8.30 p.m. Roll call will
be the Beatitudes in rotation. The
bazaar held in town hall, Clinton,
on May 31 was a decided success.
Hensall .Couple
Celebrates Their
40th Anniversary

Honoring Mr. and Mrs. Jarvis
Horton on the occasion of their
40th wedding anniversary, about 20
relatives arranged a surprise party
or June 1, at the home of Mr,
and ,Mrs, Stanley Mitchell where
the marriage was solemnized 40'
years ago.
Mrs. A. Rowcliffe presented cor-
sages to the couple, A recreational
period of court whist was enjoyed
with Jim McAllister the winner.
Mrs. Horton won the lucky chair
prize, and Mrs, Melvin Trayuair,
bridesmaid at her wedding, was
the'winner of the lucky cup prize.
Mr. and Mrs, Horton were pre-
sented with two lovely lawn chairs.
The address 'was read by Miss
Jean McAllister, and presentations
were made by Mrs. A. Rowcliffe
and Mrs. R, J. Paterson,
Mrs, Paterson favoured with a
humorous reading, and Mfg. Horton
contributed several pleasing violin
selections, accompanied at the
piano by Mrs, Carl Stoneman and
Mrs. 'Grace Harpole.
The guests sat down to a bridal'
table for luncheon. The table was
covered with a lace cloth, and
centred with a three-tier wedding
cake, ` lighted candelabras, and
vases of red rosebuds. Mrs. Pat-
erson arranged the table,

married in the Christian Reformed Church, Clinton, on Friday
evening, May 27, by Rev. G. J. Hoytema. The bride is a
daughter of Mrs. de Ruyter, Clinton and the late Derk de Ruyter,
formerly of Noord Schwarwoude, Holland. The bridegroom is •
the son of the late Mr, and Mrs, Frederick Schoemaker, formerly

Snell, Seaforth, said he stopped
three trucks loaded with logs on
the Brucefield-Bayfield road on the
night of April 18. One truck, with
a gross weight licence for 18,000
pounds, weighed 26,140 pounds on
weigh scales at Hensall. s,
A second truck with a gross
weight licence for 24,000 pounds
weighed 26,100 pounds on the
scales, the constable told the court.
A. Pinter, West Lorne, was fined
$50 and costs on each charge.
"It's no wonder roads become
broken up when truckers disobey
the law in this manner," comment-
ed Magistrate D. E. Holmes. —
