Local Council Of
Churches Meets
Here In Clinton
The Wingham and District
Council of Churches met at the
home of the Rev. and Mrs. A, Glen
Eagle, Clinton, on Monday, April
4, The meeting opened with a
brief devotional period conducted
by Revs. D. J, Lane and A. Lane,
With the Rev. H, Parker in the
chair the meeting adopted the
minutes as read by Rev. D. J.
MacRae. It was decided to accept
an invitation received from Flight
Lieut. B. Garrett to hold the next
meeting at the RCAF Station
Clinton.
Rev. J. E. Ostrom introduced
.the speaker for the afternoon, the
Rev. Dr. T. McDormand, general
secretary, of the Baptist 'Conven-
tion of Ontario and Quebec.
Rev. Dr. McDorniand addressed
the meeting on the subject:
"What's Nevi About Christianity?"
The speaker pointed out that such
religions as Buddhism and Mo-
hammedanism, in addition to Com-
munism, are all trying to win the
minds and souls of men and to
elbow Christianity aside. "Even in
Canada, . Christianity isn't as
strong as it should be," he said. He
went on: "Men have tried various
kinds of religion. Men have held
religion based on a worship of
themselves as expressed in the
State as in Naziism and Commun-
ism. Or, men have held a religion
of imagined gods with human
characteristics and human failings
and lacking in loving concern foto
the welfare of their fellow men.
Such a religion was known to the
Greeks. Still other men,'the Heb-
rews, held a purer faithbut one
based on a God far removed from
men, sitting in Judgment and de-
manding complete obedience to
Divine laws."
Following some interesting and
thought provoking discussion Rev.
D. J. Lane thanked the speaker
