RCAF Raseballers Nip Strathroy With
Late Inning Rally To Win 9 to 7
RCAF Flyers came from, be-
hind in, the late innings of Tues-
day night's ; scheduled Huron-
Perth baseball game todefeat,
the Strathroy Royals .9-7 in a
spirited game that was played on
the RCAF Sports Field.
The game broke wide open in
the first inning with the Flyers.
getting ett] to George Evans for four
runs on three hits and at error
only to have the Royals come
right back and shell Roe ' from
the box with six runson six
hits in the second frame, Meade
was called from the bull -pen
and stopped . the 'rally, forcing
B, Pearson to pop to Garrow.
From the second inning on a
pitcher's battle developed be-
tween Evans and Meade with
the latter holding lois opposition
to a lone hit and that was a
home run by Paterson in the
fifth with the basee empty.
Meade was in a little trouble in
the fourth when he walked two
men but two 'strikeouts' and a
weak ground ball to the third
baseman ,got hire out of trouble:
He was in complete control most.
of the game with his amazing
fast ball baffling the Royals re-
peatedly. Evans allowed only.
seven hits but the five eerors'
that his .teammates made prove
ed to be too big an obstacle.
The best plays of the game.
were made by Paterson, the
Royal's centrefielder who caught
a fly off the bat of Meade in
the fourth after a long run, and
by Pearson, the.. Royal catcher,
when he picked Meade off first
with a nice throw.
The home run by`Paterson and
Gillis triple were the only long
hits of the game.
Meade received credit for the
win and was very impressive.
He was inclined to •be: a little
wild end showed on several oc-.
$anions ` that - ' he had . trouble
controlling his temper but he
will certainly give the ,' batters
around the league a lot of trouble
with his blinding speed.

.LIONS LADIES' NIGHT
HELD AT HAYFIELD
Pt. Albert Win, Tie
With Londesboro
(Glen Carter).
Londesboro BA's ran into a
"red hot" Port Albert 'team last
week and the best that they could
do in the two game series was to
salvage a tie. . Both teams had
been undefeated in their schedule
prior to .this series.
Wednesday night on the' Port
Albert home diamond the two
teams battled to a 4-4 deadlock•
in a game that was called at the
end of the ninth due to. darkness.
Carter for Londesboro and Doh-
erty hooked up in a tight pitch-
ing duel with each pitcher allow-
ing seven hits. Doherty was
troubled with wildness walking
four and hitting threebatters but
he fanned eight. Carter struck out
four and didn't issue a free pass.
Londesboro went ahead in the
fourth with a single run only to
have the game tied in the seventh.
Port Albert took a two run lead
in the eight but the BA's came
right back with three . runs in
their half of the ninth and seemed
to have the game in the bag until
the Ports pushed the tieing run
across.
