after which a further donation of
$1 was handed in. Owing to the
secretary's absence Mrs. E. Heard
was appointed to take the minutes
of the meeting. Mrs. Gairdner
read excerpts from the account of
an Americian missionary in China,
John D. Hayes, of the Red regime
there and the suffering of Christ-
ians under the communists, some
of them bearing a -striking resem-
blance to the crucifixion of our
Lord and the persecution of the
apostles and disciples. Following
the closing prayer by the rector,
Mrs. J. B. Higgins served tea.
Now that it has been decided
definitely by the County Council
to cramp the new court house in
on the square in Goderich (our
gentle plea to that august body
to choose a building site easily ac-
cessible in 1054 A.D. gone all un-
heeded) we hope that the modern
architecture of the new structure
won't clash too violently with the
business buildings surrounding it
but then perhaps Goderich will
have a general "facelifting" to
harmonize with the new edifice.
