Mrs. Ball stressed the need of
good public relationship between
the hospital and • the public, and
the opportunity afforded the aux-
iliary to serve as liaison, in this
respect,

meeting held Monday, January 4.

Miss W. O'Neil, convener of fin-
ance, reported on the activities . of
the auxiliary for 1953 and stated
that the annual membership net-
ted $130.65; tag day, $126; fun
month, $304.
Under the convenership of Mrs.
Harry McIntyre, the sewing sup-
plies included four bolts of sheet-
ing and pillow cotton.
In the absence of the buying
convener, Mrs. W. H. Robinson,
now of Ingersoll, Mrs. H. C. Law-
son,
awson, secretary, reported that dur-
ing 1953 the auxiliary had purch-
ased equipment totalling $1,116.50,
including a tray carriage costing
$41.85; an incubator, $247.35; ther-
matic drain, $156.55; dressing
gown for patients; furnishings for
two rooms, for overseas nurses re-
cently arriving to join the hospital
staff, $451.50, and furnishings for
hospital main entrances, $219.25.
Total receipts for the year, ac-
cording to the treasurer, Mrs. Reg.
Ball, were $1,747.02, which includ-
ed a bank balance from the prev-
ious year of $1,137.07.
Actual receipts for 1953 were
$609,95 and total expenditure was
$1,320.37, leaving a balance of
$426,65.
The supervision of dressings for
use in the hospital was undertaken
by 'Mrs. Alex Haddy during the
year.
The auxiliary sponsored a Hos-
pital Day, and at Christmas each
patient was remembered with a
rose on the morning tray. At the
same time the superintendent,
Miss Sinclair, and her assistant,
Miss Marquis were given gifts,
and a huge turkey was purchased
by the auxiliary for Christmas din-
ner for the hospital staff,
The auxiliary received splendid
support not only from the town,
but from the surrounding com-
munity and its 446 members dur-
ing the year.
The auxiliary agreed to join the
Regional Conference, which in-
cludes 17 hospitals in Perth, Ox-
ford, Middlesex and Huron Coun-
ties. The executive attended a
meeting at Seaforth where the
provincial president addressed a
large and representative gathering
of hospital minded women.
A visit was made by members
of the executive to the new South
Huron Hospital, Exeter.
In retiring from office, Mrs,
Lane thanked all for their sineere
co-operation, adding that she thor-
oughly enjoyed her term of office,
which included serving on the
Hospital Board. She urged each
member to give the same co-oper-
ation to the new president and of-
ficers, and reminded the members
that 1954 would be a busy one for
the auxiliary. She concluded by
saying that the auxiliary should be
a large working organization with
each member having her own part
to play.
A vote of appreciation on behalf
of the members was extended to
Mrs, Lane on motion of Mrs. F.
Fingland.
The new president, Mrs. Bali,
addressed the meeting, reminded
all present that one of the pur-
poses of any hospital auxiliary
was to raise funds to expend on
hospital buildings and equipment

The Ontario Street. United
Church Woman's Association met
on January 5 with the president,-
Mrs. L. Radford, presiding. Mrs.
Martin took the devotional period
taking as her subject a new year's
theme, _'Reach out and make thy
theme complete'„ The different
reports were read and adopted and
the annual report was given.
Rev. A:G. Eagle installed the
new officers asking them to come
forward and assume their new
duties. Congregational meeting
will be held January 27 in church
hall with a pot -luck supper to be
served. The WA will donate $195
to the training school and e5 to
the building fund. The ladies also
had a plan for the new kitchen
brought before them. ,

chosen a trustee of Auburn School
(S.S. 5 Hullett) to succeed Morris
Bean, the retiring member. The
other trustees are Kenneth Mc-
Dougal and William Craig. •

The December meeting of the
Happy Workers' Club was held at
the home of Wonnetta Holland The
meeting opened by singing "Joy to
the World", followed by the Lord's
Prayer repeated in unison. The
roll call was answered by exchang-
ing gifts. The treasurer gave her
report for the year. The new
officers for 1954 were elected and
Mrs. Henderson played Christmas
carols.
The next meeting will be at the
home of Mrs. Newman Garrett
and the roll call will be answered
by the paying of 1954 fees.
The new executive for 1954 is
as follows: President, Evelyn
Glazier; vice-president,. Dorothy
Williams: secretary Wonnetta Hol-
land; treasurer, Irene Jamieson,
flowers, Vera Glazier; pianist,
Marie Dale; quilt committee,
Marie Gibbings and Mabel Garrett.
