Mr. Josiah. White, a native of Tue.
kersmith but who has been in the
west for the past fifteen. years, pas-
sed away at .his home at Nesbitt,
Man:, recently in the prime of We.
His wife, who is a sister of Mr.
Anios Townshend, and one son and
one daughter survive. Mr. White
was a brother of Mr. Robt. White
of Tuckersmith and was well known
in the neighborhood. • He was a
charter member of the Maccabees, in
-which lie carried a two--thousand-
dollar policy, a cheque for the
amount having been sent to the wid-
ow through the secretary, Mr. Geo.
W. Layton., the other day.
The Beef Ring held their annual
meeting' in No. 4 school house one
evening recently when the affairs of
the organization were found to be
in a very satisfactory condidtion:
During the season 'Mgt passed thirty
beeves have been slaughtered, twenty
of them averaging 431 pounds and
ten, 448 pounds. A nice little bit
of beef, assuredly, and it was all of
the be:st quality. Thirty-nine fami-
liens were served hy this. ring. The
old officers were all returned : Pre-
sident, G. B. Hanley ; Vice, J. G.
Crich ; Secretaxy, R. W. Johns ;
Treahurer, G. W. Layton ; Directors,
A. Stephenson, Herbert Crich and
Thos. Livingston ; Butcher, J. Riv-
ers, to whom a vote of thanks was
tendered for his efficient services.

at the lady's parental home in

In view of an interepting and happy
vent which is to take plac8 shortly
in our village a number of young lad-
ies and other friends ga,theted at the
home of Miss Effie Knox the other
evening and presented -her with a
beautiful music cabinet., Inside the
cabinet ware found cards bearing
the names of the doners and also
some trite and appropriate saying,
original or otherwise. The evening
was very pleasantly spent . by the
young people in music and social
chat and such an exchange of pleas-
antries as the occasion suggested.
The bridge ih slowly nearing com-
pletion but a great deal depends up-
on the weather as to when it ' will
finally be ready for traffic. But it
cannot be too soon to suit the ::rax -
oiling public and all concerned.
The Methodist Sunday school in-

Christmas. ' The program, which

Thefuneral of the. late 'Mrs Don
aid, McGillivray, an old resident of
Goderich who died 'ab the home of
her daughter in Detroit, took place
from the residence of Mr. Alex. Dav-
idson on Tuesday afternoon of last,
