unfavorable weather, which prevented
many who would otherwise have at-

number, however, braved the ele-

warded by the good supper which
the good ladies ofVarnaalways
furnish and by the e:;cellent program
which always follows, and they were
not disappointed. The supper was
tasty, well served and abundant and
the prbgram following was *thin, if
it did not surpass, former efforts .in,
that line: = The ministers who were
billed- to:speak did not all attend, no
doubt owing to the disagreeable wea-
ther; but with music and elocution
the program was sufficiently varied
and was much enjoyed. Those -tak-
ing. part were Miss May Rance of
Clinton," who gave several readings
and who delighted her audience';

bers. The singing of Miss Iva

Rev. Mr. Johnston, pastor of • the
Presby terian•,church, Varna, gave an
interesting addreus. The proceeds
amounted to about one hundred and
twenty dollars; So lavish was. the
provision made that a social was

of the good things that were left

'l'he, football "friends of Mr: James„
Cameron ` _ will be pleased to learn
that the two teams from his school
won the Junior and Senior cups at
the Toronto Final School games last
week. It is unusual for one school
to win out in both Junior and Sen-
ior. The Junior team has the en-
viable r•ecord';of scoring 20 goals to
1 scored against thein, and besides
never losing 'a game .during the
whole season.. Al; the Final Games
the Junior:.; trimaned their opponents
to the tune of 3-0, and the Seniors
Mr: Cameron, who is a:bsistant
master at the King Edward School,
has for the past two years
coached the teams, and last
year the Senior team won the
first football cup won by the school,
.'They defended it successfully this
year and in addition the Juniors won
the Junior Cup for ,the first time.
"Jimmy" Cameron's training on the
C. C. I. Hough Cttp'Team and on the
hayfield "I,akesides" has apparently
been of use• to him, •
St. Andrews' and Trinity church
-Sunday schools are retaking prepara-
tions for the annual Christmas Tree
entertainments_ The former will be
held on Dec. 23rd and the latter on
Dec. 27th.
Mrs. Pinkney and family of Berlin
are the guests of the lady's parents,

Mr. Geo. Watts of the London
Road near I3rucefield, threshed his
beans a few clays ago, Messrs. Lay-
ton ` and Townsend being the thres-
hers. From seven and a half acres
he threshed two hundred and fifty"

cellent yield. The beans were a fine
sample as well.
