niture factory one day last week had
the four • fingers of his left hand so
badly injured in the. sanding machine
that they had to. be amputated.

A number of the local agents of
the Massey -Harris Co. met at • the
home of District Agent Mr. James
McKie of town one evening last
week and presented ]riot with an
addressand a handsome gold 'locket
and chain.
Mr. John • Stein, an old resident
of East Wawanosh and for some
years back a citizen of Wingham,
passed into tho beyond last week
aged 82 years:
Mr. Samuel Gracey, aged 60, of
Wingham, suddenly expired Saturday
at his home. IIe was out .to his
business as usual in the morning
and was apparently well until one
oclook, when he suddenly passed a-
way.
Mr. Gracey had been a resident of
Wingliam for many years, a leading
business man and undertaker. He
was a man always very rugged and
healthy up to the time of his death.
He leaves three daughters to mourn
his loss. His wife predeceased him
some years ago. Mr. Gracey a
member of St. Andrew's Presbyter-
ian .'Church and in politics• was a
staunch Liberal.

Council in Goderich tins week.
Mrs. Walter King visited her sister,
Mrs. Bennett of Blyth, last week.
Dr. and Mrs. Axon spent the • week-
end with Mitchell and Toronto fri-
ends.
Mrs. J. D. Anderson and Miss. Ei-
leen spent the week -end with •Blyth
friends.
Miss Mollie Cht1I spent the week -end

Miss Bessie Radford of Ingersoll is

Mr. Wni. J. Anderson, who has been
visiting his mother and brothers
on the Beylic1d Line since Christ-
mas, left yesterday for: his home
in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
Mr. John Guest, who underwent an
operation in the "Western hospital,
Toronto, On Friday lent, is pro•
grossing, finely and is now thought
to be but of danger. His friends
are hoping that his recovery may
be rapid and complete.
Mr. J. Taylor was in Toronto on
Tuesday attending the annual meet-
ing of the Confederation Life 'As'
sedation. 'Ills Confederation is
constantly' getting bigger, .but
in no district' is the growth
more rapid than that worked by
Citizen Taylor.
Mr, and- Mrs, J. A. Irwin received
word on Monday that their daugh-
ter, Miss Ruby, who was' at-
tending Business College in Cal-
gary, was in the hospital in that
city suffering, from diphtheria.
The
danger was said to be past and
the many friends of the family in
town are hoping that she, will
.full recovered.
