Shepherd, who died after but a short
illness in Ingersoll, look place from

Years of age, had only been practis-
ing since, April and was married but
four months ago. His early demiso is
much regretted by a large circle of

the Queen's Own Rifles, in .1897 'and

transferred to the Victotia • Rifles
as a subaltern, He hasworked his
way up to the rank of senior major
in the regiment and his promotion to
Lieutenant-0°10nel will no doubt
follow his present appointment. Ma-
jor Chinn is well :known in sporting
circles, especially as a lacrosse, play-
er, being a forme,: member of the
Tecumsehs,.
Major Gunn is well, known by many
in Clinton which he bas frequeritly vis-

Death of J. W. Mansell.

We regret to chronicle the death
of Mr. J. W. Mansell, a brother-in-
law of Rev. W.W. Wylie, pastor of
the Baptist church, who proved from
Clinton several months ago.
The deceased was born in Deley,
Ayrshire, Scotland in 1868. In June
of last year, he came, with his wife
and daughter, to Canada, and settled
111 Goderich and was an active work-
er in the Presbyterian church, where
he was a member of the choir. Be -
'Mg a cabinet maker in the old coun-
try, he readily secured. a situation. m
the organ, factory, where he Worked
until a few months ago, when his
health failed.
About seventeen weeks ago he came
here' to visit Res. Mr. Wylie and
family, thinking the change might hn-
prove his condition, Contrarp to ex-
pectations, however, he never improv-
ed, but sank gradually until -Thurs-
day last, when he was relieved bp
death.
The remains were interred on Sun-
day afternoon in Durham, cemetery,
To mourn his departure, he leaves
his mother, two sisters and one bo-
ther, in Scotland, and his sorrowing
widow and daughter who intend
shortly to retutn to their native
land.
