A pleasing event took place at the
(tonne of Mr. and Mrs. John Feltner,
Lot 14, Concession 7, Stephen, on
Wednesday, March 20th,.; at 1 o'clock
p. m., when their daughter, 'Miss ida,
became tate bride of Mr. /Clinton R.
Sweet, son of Mr, and Mrs. Thomas
Sweet, of Exeter. The young couple
were unattended, and the ceremony
was performed by Rev, Becker of the
Evangelical church, Crediton, in the
presence of only the immediate rela-
tives of the contracting parties.

Mr. and Mrs. George Baynham, of
Centralia, has at last arrived in ling -
land from Switzerland and been ad-
mitted to a hospital in London. Max-
well enlisted in Edmonton and was
taken prisioner in ,lune 1915 at which
time his right arm was disabled. Ile was
kept a year and a half in Germany,
and then a year in Switzerland, and now
has arrived in England. '

Kellerman, at Dashwood, about fifty
young people, assembled to. honor one
of our boys, Mr, Jack Routledge, who
leaves for London to treih for over-
seas.
There passed away al his home in
Hensel! on Wednesday March 13, John
Glenn, at the age of 76 years, after a
short illness. The (ate Mr. Glenn was
a very successful farmer, a kind
neighbor, and was highly esteemed by
a large circle of friends. He was a vol-
unteer at the time to the Fenian Raids,
Deceased w•as born in the County of
Cavan. After his marriage he resided
in 1Ubbert 'Township and hater settled
nit the old homestead in Usborne,
where he resided until three years ago,
when he moved to llensall. •
Fondness for tine clothes and jew-
elry induced a fifteen -year-old girl
whose home is in Hay Township, to
obtain $50 worth of wearing tipperei
from Parkhill merchants by represent-
ing that her father, it .wealthy farmer,
would pay for the articles, The girl
went to Parkhill and started on her
ehoppiug tour. Alter buying a new
outfit of clothing at- White, May's
store, she purchased a wrist watch and
some rings at Armstrong's Jewellry
store. Attired lu her new finery she
went to London. High Constable B. F.
Watterworth had been advised. In the
meantime, to meet the train and de-
tail' the girl, .the merchants haying
telephoned the father, who informed
them the girl had lett home and that
lie would assume no responsibility for
atny of her purchases. The girl was
detained at the Children's Shelter.

The Exemptions granted to he
Scrutinized by Government.
When the people of the Dotrtiltion de-
cided to discard the voluntary method
of re-lofureing and making good
the wastage of the Canadian Divisions

lag that the alternative of Selective
Conscription would be fairly and fifth-
ly curled out. They were strengthen-
ed in tins belief :by the feet that fairs
ness was theoretically merely another
name for Selective Conscription, its
well as from the fact that the Govern-
ment had pledged Itself, if returned, to
a just enforcement of legislation, Tills
promise is to be fully , carried out.
Questionnaires will be note addressed
to all exempted men, who must return
them, properly filled in, without loss
of time, o1• forfeit their exemption
papers, previously granted. Exempt-
ed men who have changed their ad-
dresses should notify the Registrar of
their district without delay, as failere
to receive questionnaire will be re-
garded as equivalent to failure to re-
turn it, properly 'filled in ; and will
invite the same penalty. The general
public who have already rendered valu-
able service lit the enforcement of the
legislation are Invited to continue their
endeavors to the end that justice be
rendered all those affected.
