As a Kansas Man Prays
Out is Kansas there; is a man 11am-
ed Homer McKee. IIs wrote a pray-
er, and it was printed in. the State
Board of Health Bulletin. The Bul-
letin falls to identify ,MIr. McKee fur-
ther ,than to publish his name, which
is enough in a way, for the prayer
speaks for the man, and sums up in
a few' words the attitude of happi-
ness. Here it is :
"Teach me that sixty minutes make
an hour, sixteen ounces one pound,
and 100 cents $1.
"Help me to live that I can lie
down a1 night with a clear con-
science, without a gun under 111y pil-
low,
itlow, and unheeded by the faces of
those to whom I have brought pain:
"Grant, I. beseech Thee, that I may
earn my ureal ticket on the square,
and in acing thereh)s that •1 may not
stick my gall where it does not be-
long.
"1311n1 me to the faults or the oth-
er fellow, but rovcal to me 11)1 own.
"Keep me young enough to laugh
with my children, and,to lose myself
in their play.
"And then, when eohnes the smell
of flowers, and the tread of soft
steps, mut the crusiing of the hear-
se's wbeels in the fresh gravel ,out in
front of my place, make the cue -
meets,' short and the epitaph simple.”

As a Kansas Man Prays
Out is Kansas there; is a man 11am-
ed Homer McKee. IIs wrote a pray-
er, and it was printed in. the State
Board of Health Bulletin. The Bul-
letin falls to identify ,MIr. McKee fur-
ther ,than to publish his name, which
is enough in a way, for the prayer
speaks for the man, and sums up in
a few' words the attitude of happi-
ness. Here it is :
"Teach me that sixty minutes make
an hour, sixteen ounces one pound,
and 100 cents $1.
"Help me to live that I can lie
down a1 night with a clear con-
science, without a gun under 111y pil-
low,
itlow, and unheeded by the faces of
those to whom I have brought pain:
"Grant, I. beseech Thee, that I may
earn my ureal ticket on the square,
and in acing thereh)s that •1 may not
stick my gall where it does not be-
long.
"1311n1 me to the faults or the oth-
er fellow, but rovcal to me 11)1 own.
"Keep me young enough to laugh
with my children, and,to lose myself
in their play.
"And then, when eohnes the smell
of flowers, and the tread of soft
steps, mut the crusiing of the hear-
se's wbeels in the fresh gravel ,out in
front of my place, make the cue -
meets,' short and the epitaph simple.”
