"Phe high rate of exchange charged
'by the United States .on Canadian
money is just another argument in
laver of spending our money in Carl-
.ada,
• . • '
"Beef prices should conte down,"
%says Dr, McFall, They certafnly,
:should ; we're all agreed aa to that.
,But then the prices of a lot more
things should conte down also,;
• • •'
Lt,-CTen, Sin Arthur Currie has re-
turned to Canada after live years
unilitary service, four and a hall in
France, Gen, Currin has proved him -
sell to be a Canadian of whom wo
limy be Proud,
• • s
An exchange says that dogs are be-
ing "high -costed" oil the face of the
,earth. Not so in. Clinton. This town
stover had suck a crop of puppy dogs
.as it has this season. They aro
:mostly, we refer to their color, we
quake no charge against their char -
:actors, of the "yeller" variety,
• •
'Who would have supposed that Sir
Robert Borden, after the experiences
of the past few years, especially,
would be -so flustered at the prospect
of meeting a member of the Royalty
that he would tumble downstairs 1,
It's pretty tough that he has to stay,
lir bed and, let somebody else .run his
,party,,
- • • •
It is so obvious. that the State of
Maine geographically belongs to the
',Dominion that its governor was , in-
.vited to iota the party which wel-
comed 'the Prince of Wales at St.
John. With all the high dignitaries]
tin his neighborhood taking part in
the reception it was telt that Gov-
ernor Milliken would feel lonely if he
were left out.
• • •
'Mr. Fox of the Wm. Davies Co.,
'Toronto, says things will not keep
in cold storage nearly so long as peo-
ple seem to imagine. We're inclined
to believe it, indeed, in Winnipeg
- and Montreal and probably in Toron-
to, too, things, like poultry and eggs
have not kept nearly so long as the
.cold storage people seemed to want
to keep them -they had to be taken
out and destroyed.
• • •
The people who are responsible for
the entertainment of the Prince of
. ;Wales should remember that he's
young and needs a bit of fun. Ono
cannot think of anything much more
boring to a young man of twenty-
five than having to listen to address-
- ▪ .es all day long -unless it would be
replying to them. They should let
the boy enjoy himself a hit so he'll
go home with the impression that
Canada is a pleasant place to live -
not merely a place of solemn and
formal assemblies, where he was al-
ways expected to reply. to an address
of some sort.
• * •
Profiteering has, apparently, been
going on a long time. A hog has
been discovered in a Detroit cold
storage plant -which is said to- have
been kept frozen for twenty-six years.
Live hogs sold at five' cents per,
pound in 1893 when this particular
hog was cold-storaged'and now they
bring over twenty-three tents., It
is our opinion that the hog in ques-
tion wasn't as much of a hog as the
cold storage people, unless they had
mislaid it all these years, in which
case we w ould recommend a better
checking system.
