Rev, J. E. Forel of Goderich was in
town on Saturday and Monday on
his way to and from Wingham,
where he is supplying the Metho-
dist pulpit during July.
Mr. Harold Holmes of Tilsonburg
spent the week -end at his home in
town, leaving on Monday for To -
roto, where he is taking a special
course in cadet work.
Miss Emma Stephenson who has been
teaching at Port Arthur since Eas-
ter, returned home Monday even-
ing. She stopped orf for a few days
to visit Port Dover friends.
Miss Martha Taylor, who has been
spending• the past several months
in Goderich, left this week forrRol-
lo, N. Dak., where she. will visit
'Mrs. Howson for some time,
Miss Helena Middleton sails on the
C. P. R. steamer, Pretoria, from
Montreal on Friday with a party
on a trip to Scotland, England,
France, Belgium and Switzerland.
Mr. and Mrs. Busha and Misses Mar-
garet and Alice of St. Clair, and
Mrs. Smith of Beckerville, Mich.,
visited at the hours of the latter's
cousin, Mrs, S, J. Andrews, during
the past week.
Mr. and Mrs. Blatchford of London
visited their sister, Miss Graham
of town, over the week -end and on
their return to London were accom-
panied by Miss Graham who will
spend some time with her sister,
Mr, and Mrs, A. Welsh returned last
week from a very pleasant visit
• in Detroit the home of a brother of
the former. Mr. Welsh says he

Michigan and that it looks prosper -

Mr. J, H. Cantelon, who has been, ac-
countant in the Hensel, branch of
the Molsons"Bank, has been trans-
ferred to Lucicow and is moving
his family up this week. They spent
a few days in town with Mr. Cant-
elon's parents on the way through.
Mr, and Mrs, W. Manistee' and fam-
ily left yesterday for a trip to the
west, They will visit the lady's"
parents, Mr. and Mrs, J. W. Hill of
Oxbow, Sask, and friends in other
parts of the west. Mr. and Mrs.

and the west is not new to them,

Mr. C. D. Bouek left Monday for
Bracebriclge' to take charge of the
Summer Model School, as has been
his " custom for several years.
Misses Eva and Ethel accompanied
him as far as Toronto, going on
from there to visit their grandpar-
ents at Boucies Hill, Dundas county
Mr. and Mrs. Boeck, Sr., intend
holding their Diamond Jubilee, the
sixtieth anniversary of their rnar-
raige, in August at which it is ex-
expected every member of the fam-
ily'will be present, there being as
yet ne break hi the family circle.

Owing to the necessity of supplying each customer
with a counter check showing the tax separately, the
demand by merchants for counter checks is being greatly
increased.
Also owing to the increase in the price of the
paper from which counter checks are mada the price is
steadily increasing.
The scarcity of paper and the increased demand
will cause delay in delivery.
Those wishing counter checks should order at
once for fall delivery. Get your supply before paper

A quiet wedding took place at
Ontario street parsonage on Satur-
day afternoon last when Mrs. Edith
E. Mcllroy and Mr. John Robert Bell
of Blyth were united in marriage by
the Rev. S. Anderson. Mr. and Mrs.
Bell 41 reside in Blyth.

Mrs. Butler is having some repair-
ing done to her cottage on Cutter
street.
M. James Livermore of town re-
ceived word the other day of the ser-
ious illness of her aunt, Miss Emma
Gibbings of Barnstaple, England.
A fine team of chestnut horses with
silver stains and tails has been pur-
chased from J. Bowland of Usborne
for use on the Huron County Farm.
Clinton won from Goderieh in a
League game on Monday evening,
the score being 10-5. If Clinton goes
carefully it may get in the finals.
The registration fee on letters and
parcels mailed in Canada has been
fixed at ten cents per letter or other
parcel. The new rate goes into effect
on July 15th.
As important business will come
up all members are requested to be
present at the regular meeting of the
Canadian Order of F oresters on
Thursday evening of next week.
Miss Pearl Shipley was presented
by the Hosiery Chub, one evening
last week with a flattering address
and a set of silver spoons, the pre-
sentation being made in view of her
retirement from the office staff of the
Knitting Co., and her approaching
marriage,
The G. T. R. will rain two special
trains to Goderich on July 12th, one
from Lucan Crossing and one from
Seaforth. The Lucas Crossing train
reaches Clinton at seven -fifty a.m.
and leaves Goderich at seven -fifteen
pan. 711e Seaforth train leaves at
ten o'clock rand returning leaves God-
crich at eight p.m.

of town, Owing to the rainstorm
the roads were in a very unsafe
condition and they had an accident
when their car skidded off the road,
as a consequence of it Mrs, De
Cew received, a bruise in her side
and Mr. Finch a sprained shoulder,
but they' all were thankful the re-
sults -were no worse as the acci-
dent might easily have been a very
serious one.

teaching school near Markham, has
returned home for the summer vaca-
tion Miss Kehoe of Toronto has
been visiting her.
Messrs. Amos Townsend and G. N.
Turner are having their stabling en -
barged by building walls underneath
