Mr. and Mrs. Hislop and Mr. and Mrs. Smillie of Walton motored over on Thursday and spent the day with Mrs. Chambers. Mr. and Mrs. Wnn. Batty of Oshawa and Mr. Frank Batty and Mr. L. Stainton of Brooklyn visited the former's brother, Mr. James Cor- nish,last week. Mr. and Mrs. Brown, Brantford, have been in town during the past week, corning to see their brother-in- law, Mr. Wnh. East, who is lying very ill in the hospital. Mrs. A. J. Irwin has been visiting friends in London for the past week. Mr. Irwin, who was at the London Conference at Stratford, went to London 'on Monday and carte home Tuesday evening. 11Irs. Elliott and babe of Toronto are expected today and -will spend a couple of weeks with the lady's Parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Lind- say. Mrs. Elliott has been visiting the parents of her late husband in Mitche1L Mrs. G. W. Cuninghame and Master John left Monday morning to visit friends at Norfolk Va. Mr. Cun- bighame accompanied them as far as Buffalo. Mrs. Cuninghame in- tended going by boat from Balti- more. They will be absent a couple of months. Mrs. J. C. Stevenson of Oakland, California, expects to visit the old hone. town shortly and to spend some time with her nephew, Lt.- Col. t:Col. Combe, and family and her sister-in-law, Mrs. John Cuning- home, and other friends here. Mrs. Stevenson is at present in Kansas City. Old friends here will be de- lighted to meet her again. Mr. and Mrs. Stevenson were formerly highly esteemed residents of Clin- ton but have resided in California for some years. Also owing to the increase in the price of the paper from which counter cheeks are made the price is steadily increasing. Paper has advanced one hundred per cent. during the past two years and will make another sharp advance on July 1st. The scarcity of paper and the increased demand will cause delay in delivery. Mr. Biggs, Minister of Public Works, Andrew Hicks, M. P. P. for South Iluron, the president of the Co-operative Company and a lady representing the U. F. W. 0. will be the speakers. Everybody will be welcome and it is hoped a good attendance will be present. The church walls are being painted and services, are being held in the basement. Last Sunday Mr. Thos. White, was present and sting, while the pastor gave - an account of the Associational meetings at Mount For- est, The funeral of the late Mrs. Wil- liam R. Evans of Goderieh took place yesterday afternoon from the honkie of her mother, Mrs. Sayles, where she died on Monday. The deceased, who was but thirty-two years of age, is survived by her husband and one lit- tle daughter. She had been in deli- cate health for some time The-f1.}floral services were conducted by the Rev. E. 0. Fordo of the Baptist church, assisted by the Rev A. E. Millson of the Methodist church.
