day Morning April 1S,. before Magis-
trate Makins. Mrs. Catharine I-hastings
of Logan was committed for trial at the
next court on the charge of murdering
her husband ' the late Daniel Iiastings,
Mr, G. G. McPherson. 'Crown Attorney
prosecuted and Mr. F. H. Thompson,
K, C. defended, „ oiy. -.-
The confession signed by Mrs, Has-
tings 111 Mitchell on the 24t11 cif April
was put I11 as evidence as Exhibit ,"A"
This confession, which was presented
to the Coroner's jury and published at
that time sets forth that Mrs, Hastings
gave her husband two strycvhnine tab-
lets and that the believed then to have
ten tilt cause of his death.
Police Constable Willard ingrain, of
Mitchell was called and stated that the
confession was made written• and sign-
ed in his presence in the office of Dr.
R. E. Murray at Mitchell. Witness stat-
er
that he'asked Mrs. Hastings wheth-
er she had given the tablets by mistake
and that she replied that she knew
what she was giving and had taken
them herself for a headache, Mr, In-
gram produced three boxes of pills or
tablets of various kinds which he had
foundtin the woman's house on making
a„iearch:

On being asked if she had anything
to say in answer to the charge. Mrs.
Hastings stated: "The night any hus-
band died lie sat up in bed and Com-
plained of a headache. I gave him two
tablets• the same as 1 had been taking
myself not intending to,.do hint any
harm but to cure his headache: 1 had
no Intention of anything else. When
he. died so,suddeiily, I became panic-
strieken and thought.I was the cause of
