Dear Friend Roy1 recall my promise to write you.
so here I am, this Thursday, in
Indian Harbor, a fishing village with
the main road Just a few yards from
the Atlantic ocean, .and Just a few
miles from Halifax. Yrevlous to
this year I carne clown by way of
Boston, crossing into New Bruns-
yick at Calaise, Maine. This year,
by Montreal and River du Loop, thea
route is longer, gasoline much high-
er and roads not nearly so good.
There are no less ttham, four t311
'bridges and one Ferry, seventy
cents for each bridge and one dolls.
for Ferry.
From Montreal to Border of NeW
Brunswick, people all speak French,
even if do speak Dnglish they ex
pent you to talk French,
The drive is very picturesque,
houses are built rpra•ctically touching
the roadway and very close to each
Other, as farms are 20 rods wide
and a mile long in most sections.
Telephone poles are all painted
white one-half of their height, which
snakes it better for night driving.
Railroad crossings are made very
.conspituous and a full stop must be
made by motor vehicles.
Alter leaving Grand Falls t he
mad follows the Sit. John River. I
saw at least six "drives" as they
are called by lumbermen. Logs
are floated down to Fredericton. or
Sit. John, from hundreds of miles up
the St. John and its tributaries. The
front of each drive is held by loge
chained together, which as you
know is called a "boom."
One drive in particular must have
been 250 yards wide and a mile long.
A cook house and sleeping quarters
were built right on the logs. only ta^
paper shacks of course but they
looked quite cheery. Smoke pour-
ing from an old stovepipe and the
cook waving at ua as we passed by,
After arriving in 'Halifax my first
engagement ,was to Spryfleld. Just
two -and -one-half miles from City
Hall. This suburb has sprung up
over night as it were. Population
has increased so much children go
to school fust one halt of each day.
(not 'enough schools) so they take
their turn. A couple of years ago
it was all rock and wilderness, a few
summer camps that was all
The population, of Halifax has al-
most doubled .since the war and so
the peovle are spreading out. Sev-
enty per cent of houses in Spryfleld
are lust boards and nearly all built
on Sunday or after regular working
hours.
I paid fort.two cents for a dozen
eggs and forty -true cents for a pound
of butter.
Halifax is probably the most Cos-
mopolitan city in the world to -clay.
Sailors from every pont on the
seven seas, soldiers, airmen, from
everywhere. Women and girls are
not allowed on. the streets after
mid -night without an escort. If
found the city provides one free of
charge, Ole takes them home
within a radius of seventy-five miles.
Last Sunday I went to Cam,/ Hill
hospital to see Gordon Harmon. He
has been there almost eight weeks,
is very poorly but in, good spirits.
I ran into. Monty Brothers, who is in
the air force. He has his wings,
also a couple of stripes,

would be a big farm. Imagine one
nran walking ahead of his oxen,
another between the plow handles
and probably three more all digging
out rocks. All on about one-tenth
ole an acre. It sure helps the labor
situation.
Indian Harbor, as I mentioned
before, is a fishing village. At
Present they are catching Jobst ra,•;
The pirce is poor, twenty cents
for big ones and ten cents for thole
under nine inches in length. Last
night a little girl was selling them in
the hall for 15c each, all cooked and
ready to eat.
Weather is very backward, and
"planting,' is just starting. Any
farming in this community is done
with oxen. A piece of cleared land
as large as one of your church sheds

Nothing could be more essential than the Greatest
Precision when Examining the 'Human Eye. Lenses supplied
must not only give Clear Vision but be so designed that they
will not cause a disturbance of some of the other parts of the
Delicate Eye Mechanism and lead to Wrong Visual Habits and
consequent waste of Valuable Nerve Energy.
That is why we insist on the Greatest Accuracy in all of
the Twenty -Five Tests which make up our Complete'—Eye
Examination.
