Have you ever tried fine ashes
moistened with vinegar for re-
moving stains on your crockery?
They are excellent and very eco-
nomical. You can make one egg
into tyo by beating the yolk with
half a cupful of milk and whipping
the white snow -hard before stirring
it in. To keep your household
towels a good white, wash them in
the usual way but add a dessert:
spoon of vinegar to them when they
are boiling,

19;40 License Mates

For' Red Cross
A plan for the, salvaging of 1940
auto'\obile license mates by the
O.ntarli Division of the Canadian
Red Cr1s;s Society is! amn0unced 'by
the l4ont )l atble .Mitchell F, Hepburn,
steel, would be made avail le or
war purposes.
"I hope the motorists of Ontario
will co-operate whole-heartedly,1,
said Mr. Hepburn. "This arrange-
ment gives them an opportunity to
render effective aid in two ways•aa'l
at no cost to themselves, Three
hundred tons of steel would be an
important aid' to the war industries
and the cash derived from the sale
of the metal will he electively used
by the Rtd Cross. In the present
eaneagency, when steelmills are
working to capacity, we must avoid
waste of material and I am eure
that motorists will support this
worthwhile undertaking."
rlt is understood tbat the Red
Cross Society's. plan for the salvag-
ing of the old plates has been made
possible by the co-operation of
Imperial Oil Limited' and the . mem-
bers of the Automotive Transport
Assoc'n. All Imperial Oil Service
stations will act as collecting depots
for the plates and Automotive
Transport Association members
have agreed to transport the col-
lected plates to the steel mitis. Both
operations are being conducted
without charge.
