chimney which ignited the roof of
the main sawdust bin, lire, whicl
at one time threatened to destroy
the entire building caused damage
estimated at $5,000 at the Wingham
Manufacturing Company factory
here late Tuesday afteronon.
The fire was first noticed about
4.30 by Mrs, Obaaies. Cook, wire o
the plant manager, who lives a few
hundred yards from the factory.
She notified her son 'Cecil, who
wonks. in the faotory, and Ile sum-
moned firemen.
Firemen had to battle the flames
for more than two hours before the
fire was brought under control. At
one time it was feared the flames
would) reach the storage room
where turpentine and oil is kept
and when firemen finally brought
the diaries under control they had
lust begun eating their sway into
the partition surrounding the store-
room
A great deal of damage was
caused by waiter, soaking dried -out
manufactured atrlcles, The com-
pany makes a large number of toys
and several orders were in the dry-
ing room awaiting delivery.
The manager, Charles Cook, stat-
ed that loss would mount ihigher,
following a survey of the damage
done by water. The flames had
gained considerable headway when
noticed but all eniiployeea of the
plant, about 30 in number, managed
to esicape. Dr,' Cook said, a an4a11
antdunt of fire insurance was car-
ried,

The anniversary services of the
Astwood Presbynterian Church was
observed on Sunday with Rev. F.
