On Saturday, July 1th, the Navy
League of Canada will hold its
annual Tag Day here. We know you
are interested in their excellent
lwrrk but maybe you have for-
gotten, what your nickels, dimes,
quarters, dollars—no amount barred
—have meant for the men of the
5E d5.
The Navy League operates 23
Hostels and Recreation Centres at
oar coastal Ports, where In the last
three years Naval and Merchant
seamen of 43 Allied Nations have
made nearly eight and a half million
Writs, -deceiving comforts, helping
to relieve the strain of over five
years vigil on the treacherous
wal.es'e, To these men they try and
give some of the comforts of home—
woollens, jerkins, magazines, games,
ditty bags, etc., all help to. make
their going easier.
To maintain these services and
also that of the Royal Canadian Sea
Cadets, our Youth Training Move•
moot, the Navy League yearly in-
structs thousands of teen-age boys
in the principles of good seaman-
ship and teaches them discipline,
self-reliance, the ability to receive
ras well as give orders, ell necessary
( to good citizenship,
V45 Day is past and gone—but
' ,with the swing to the Pacific of the
supplies of war, .their demands in-
crease as hundreds of thousands of
these seamen will still be needed to
transport the millions of tons of food
and medical supplies to the overrun
and .starved people of Europe,
The Navy League welds together
Lhe thousands of individual efforts
for the man of the sea, wherever
they touch our Ports and for
Canada's sailors in the making.
