Harvest Thanksgiving Service
St. George's, Walton
The Annual Harvest Thanksgiving
Service of St. George's Anglican
Church, Walton, vras held on Sunday,
Sept. 27t1i with a good attendance.
The service was held at 3 pm. and
was in charge of Rev, M. F. Oldham,
Rector, who pr'eaehe:d an appropriate
sermon on Genesis 30: 4 Reuben
went in the days of wheat harvest
a"d found mandrakes in the field."
The importance of the harvest was
stressed and also the great duty of
thankfulness to God for His material
'and •spiritual benefits. The continu-
ity of the Providence of God shown
in the harvest of one sear being the
foundation of the seed time of the
next year. The choir sang the An-
them "Bringing in the"Sheaves." Mr.
Bolsi:. Campbell of St. John's Church,
Brussels was organist. The church
was beautifully decorated with
flowers, fruits and vegetables. A
'Service for the Sunday School pupils
was held before the service. The
offering amounted to over 325.00.
On, account of Harvest Home Ser-
vices in St. John's Church, Brussels,
on Oct. 4th there will not be any
service in St. George's, Welton. Ser-
vice on Oct. 11th at 10 a.m. with
Sunday School after the service.
Mr. and Mrs, Geo. Pollard and
dauphter spent a few days in Ham-
ilton last week with Mr. and Mrs.
Edgar Hollinger.
Not Refusing To
Sell Firewood
Although objecting to the low
ceiling price on. firewood and main-
taining that "something will have to
be done about it," Stratford dealers
are not refusing to sell wood as is
the case to Woodstock. One clearer
here reported that he had beau not-
ified of the ceiling price only Sat-
urday and, although he felt it was
too low, no action had yet been
taken to raise it. „
In Woodstock, citiaevs have found
it almost impossible to bny firewood
to relieve the chill of the past few
void' clays. Although the dealers have
considerable supplies in their yards,
they mraintain that the ceiling is too
low and refuse to sell while they
clicker with the 'Price Control Board
for a higher ceiling.
Woodstock dealers, point out that
arbor costs have increased which
has resulted in a rise in the Dost of
wood. They also stress that it has
become necessary each year to
travel greater distances to the bush,

Annual Harvest Thanksgiving

The Animal Harvest Thanksgiv-
ing Service of St. David's Church
Bieniryn, were held on Sunday, Sept.
.20th at 11 a.m. and 7.30 p.m., with
splendid weather and good attend-
ance. The Rector Rev. M. F. Oldham
was in charge and delivered two
appropriate sermons. The morning
sermon -was on Psalm 107:15; "Oh
that men would praise the Lord for
His goodness and declare the won-
ders that He doeth for the children
of men. The duty of praising God
tor His many blessings and gifts
was stressed. The evening sermon
was based on St. Luke 12,76; "The
ground of a certain rich man brought
!forth. plentifully." We are to take
regard for spiritual things and not
place too much 'confidence in the
material things of the world. We
are to bear in mind th•e great sparitu-
'al harvest when we shall reap as we
have .sown.
, The soloist at each -service was
.Mrs. Bert Luke, who rendered two
appropriate solos. Mrs, Thomas
Kerr officiated very efficiently at the
organ.
The church was nicely decorated
with the pr'od'ucts .of the harvest.'
The offering was a record, the larg-
est in years srounting to 97.00.

Ernest . William Robinson, son of
Mr, and Mrs, William Robinson, 9th
concession of East Wawanosh, died
at his home on Saturday in his 44th
year. He had 'been seriously ill for
several weeks', 'Born on the 9th
concession, liis entire life was spent '
there where he engaged in farming
with his father. Besides his sorrow-
ing parents he is survived by three
brothers and two sisters, Edward ,
of Minneapolis, Minn..; Dr. Wilfred

Harold Robinson, Walkerton, On-

noon from his home with service

Erussiels. Burial took place in
Winghant cemetery. The pallbearers
were Mason Robinson, Athol Bruce,
Thomas O'Malley, Lewis Stonehouse,

The September meeting of the
Majetsic Women's Institute was held
at the home of Mrs. Jas. Armstrong
on Thursday afternoon, September
10th. A large number of members -
and visitors present, Mrs, Thos.
Davidson presided and after the
usual business items were dealt with
a letter was read from Mrs, Emma
Duke, urging the W.I. members to
buy war saving certificates. A
number ,of members took" home a
war saving stamp folder and hope
to fill it in the near future It was
aleo 1eeided to bring magazines,
cards, games and books to the next
meeting and ,to have them sent to
the boys in the armed services.
Plans were also made for the sere •
ir'.g of tern at the Public Library for
,the Rad. Oress on September 39th.
Mrs. John Spear was appointed dele-
gate to the Women's Institute Con-
vention
onvention to be held at Kitchener on
October 20th and 30th, with Mrs,
flare Long alternate. Interesting
current events were then given by a
number of the members. The main
feature of the meeting was a demon
stration by Mrs. Jas. Armstrong and
Mrs. Roy Thnell, our local leaders to
the trebling school held at Ford
with. on the value of vegetables is
our diet. The cooking of three
vegetables, baked potato, diced car-
rots and escalloped cabbage were
demonstrated, All three were
"sannpled" by those present and
proved to be very appetizing.
Refreshments were served by the
hostess and a social time enjoyed..
The next meeting as to be held at
the home of Mrs, Win. Evans on
Thursday afternoon, Oct, 8th.
Sohn. McKinnon, Fort Willem is
enjoying a visit with his brother and
sister Dan and Sarait McKinnon,
John Grant 12th con., has not been
in the best of health .in recent weeks
'but is somewhat improved at pres-
ent,
In connection with the Junior
Boys' Swine .Club at the Listowel
fall fair, Jack. son of Aubert Cardiff,
4th con., received 3rdprize against
keen competition. Two Lima boys
got tat and 2nd, their method of feed-
ing Miring the past few months was
discussed and taken into,considera-
